Mbappe Atop World Cup Golden Ball Odds

Mbappe Atop World Cup Golden Ball Odds

Kylian Mbappe proved to be the difference maker in France’s 4-3 victory over Argentina in the Round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The teen phenom scored a pair of second-half goals just four minutes apart to seal the victory for the French as +140 favorites, and now looks toward France’s quarterfinal clash with Uruguay as a +350 favorite on the World Cup Golden Ball odds.

The 19-year-old has emerged as a legitimate international star during his World Cup debut, scoring three goals in his first four outings, including the game winner in a narrow 1-0 win over Peru in the group stage, and will be counted on once again when Les Bleus hit the pitch as -105 favorites on Friday at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

Mbappe opened the tournament well behind the favorites at +2800 on the odds to win the Golden Ball award after scoring just once in six appearances during UEFA World Cup qualifying, but is coming off an impressive first season with Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 13 times in 27 appearances to lift the club back to the top of the Ligue 1 table.

However, the young Frenchman has plenty of company at the top of the Golden Ball betting lines, where he is closely followed by England’s Harry Kane at +400, and Brazilians Neymar Jr. and Philippe Coutinho, at +500 and +800, respectively.

Kane has been dominant during England’s run to their first quarterfinal appearance since 2006. The 24-year-old leads the tournament with six goals, and sits as a massive -350 favorite on the World Cup Golden Boot odds. The Tottenham Hotspur star has been a regular producer when taking the pitch for the national side, potting 14 goals in his past 12 appearances with the Three Lions across all competitions, and is a +500 bet to score two or more times when England battles Sweden on Saturday as -115 chalk.

Neymar Drops From Second on Golden Ball Betting Lines

Neymar trailed only Argentina’s Lionel Messi as a +900 bet on the World Cup Golden Ball odds at the start of the tournament, and has contributed two goals and an assist for the undefeated Brazilians over the first four matches of the tournament.

The 26-year-old scored six times in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying action, part of a stretch that saw him score 10 goals in 10 matches with the Canarinho. But concerns linger about Neymar’s fitness to play after he suffered a foot injury in February that sidelined him for three months.

Coutinho also opened the tournament sporting +2800 odds, and has contributed timely scoring at this year’s World Cup. The 26-year-old scored the game winner in Brazil’s 2-0 group stage win over Costa Rica as -550 chalk, and added an assist in the squad’s 2-0 win over Serbia in the Group E finale.

Further down the odds to win the Golden Ball award, Croatia’s Luka Modric sits at +1200, followed by Belgium’s Eden Hazard at +1400, and French captain Antoine Griezmann at +2000. Belgian sniper Romelu Lukaku trails at +2500, while teammate Kevin de Bruyne is joined at +3300 by a pair of Uruguayan stars, Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
