Super Bowl LVII Matchup

Philadelphia and Kansas City finished tied atop the NFL standings this season, with both teams posting a 14-3 mark on the campaign. As a result, these two teams claimed the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences. This marks the first time in five years that both of the NFL’s top seeds meet in the Super Bowl, with that particular scenario last playing out back in 2017. As chance would have it, the Eagles took part in that Super Bowl, earning the win over the Patriots.

Looking at the two offenses involved, it’s clear that both sides are capable of lighting up the scoreboard in a hurry. The Chiefs were the NFL’s top-ranked scoring offense this season at 29.2 PPG, while the Eagles finished 3rd in the league at 28.1 PPG. On defense, Philadelphia boasts a top-10 stop unit that allowed just 20.2 PPG and Kansas City’s defensive unit was not far behind at 21.7 PPG. If you’re looking for a statistical edge in this Super Bowl matchup, it’s worth noting that the Eagles were ranked 3rd in the NFL with a +8 turnover differential. This was much better than the Chiefs, who actually finished in the negative for the season at -3.

Kansas City Chiefs Preview (+110 to Win Super Bowl LVII)

Kansas City should feel right at home during this year’s Super Bowl, having now made it to the NFL’s championship game in three of the past four seasons. The Chiefs entered the year as one of the Super Bowl favorites and have done little to change that perception over the course of the season. Having said that, there were certainly concerns early on, as many wondered if Kansas City could overcome the loss of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. There was also the fact that their division had beefed up over the offseason, with the Chargers, Raiders and Broncos all making significant moves in the AFC West. In spite of this all, the Chiefs are now just one win away from claiming their second Super Bowl title of the past four years.

Philadelphia Eagles Preview (-130 to Win Super Bowl LVII)

This will be the Philly’s fourth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, with the team’s only win coming over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Few people expected the Eagles to reach the 2023 Super Bowl, but quarterback Jalen Hurts has emerged as one of the premier players in the NFL this season and

has Philadelphia back in the big game once again. Featuring a versatile run game and aggressive aerial attack, Philly’s offense is a matchup nightmare, while the defense has talented playmakers at all three levels. As one of the truly great sports cities in America, you can bet the Philly faithful will be ready to celebrate if the Eagles can pull out the win at this year’s Super Bowl.

Kansas City’s Path To The 2023 Super Bowl

Finishing the NFL regular season at 14-3, the Chiefs had no trouble locking up this year’s AFC West crown. This marks the seventh straight year that Kansas City has won the division. As the best team in the AFC, the Chiefs claimed the conference’s No. 1 seed and got to enjoy a first-round bye while the other playoff teams battled it out during Wild Card Weekend.

Kansas City hosted an upstart Jacksonville Jaguars squad in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs and prevailed 27-20. The win did not come without some costly consequences, however, as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain and was severely limited in the second half.

In the AFC Championship Game, Kansas City played host to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Chiefs had lost their past three matchups with the Bengals – a streak that included last year’s AFC Championship Game, as well as a 27-24 defeat in Week 13 of this season. With a hobbled Mahomes, as well as injuries at a number of other positions, Kansas City put forth a gritty performance for the home crowd and booked their ticket to Super Bowl 57 with a 23-20 victory.

Philadelphia’s Path To The 2023 Super Bowl

The Eagles began the year 8-0 and were the NFL’s team to beat for much of the campaign, improving to 13-1 before an injury to Jalen Hurts led to back-to-back losses in Weeks 16 and 17. Despite only locking up the NFC East on the final day of the regular season, Philly still managed to finish the year with an NFC-best 14-3 record and earned the conference’s No. 1 seed. After getting to skip Wild Card Weekend with a first-round bye, the Eagles trounced the New York Giants in the Divisional Round, 38-7.

Philadelphia faced off against the San Francisco 49ers and their top-ranked defense in the NFC Championship Game. Unfortunately for the Niners, quarterback Brock Purdy got hurt after a hit on his elbow and was forced to the bench. This severely limited San Francisco’s offensive game plan and allowed the Eagles to win easily, 31-7.

Kansas City’s Key Players

Patrick Mahomes (QB) – The Chiefs quarterback is the most exciting player in all of football and is the key to his team’s success. With two weeks to rest his injured ankle, you can expect Mahomes to be ready to play on Super Sunday.

Travis Kelce (TE) – As his team’s No. 1 receiving threat, Kelce will be a major part of the Chiefs offensive strategy in the Super Bowl. During this year’s playoff run, the star tight end has amassed 21 receptions, 176 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in just two postseason games.

Chris Jones (DT) – The Eagles have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, so Kansas City will need a strong performance from defensive tackle Chris Jones following his breakthrough two-sack performance in the AFC Championship Game.

Isiah Pacheco (RB) – This rookie rusher runs hard and has come on strong for the Chiefs over the back half of the season. Running on the Eagles is no easy task but if Pacheco can pick up some easy first downs, it could open things up for Mahomes and the rest of the offense.

Philadelphia’s Key Players

Jalen Hurts (QB) – As a finalist for this year’s NFL MVP award, Hurts has been the straw that stirs the drink for the Eagles offense. The star quarterback can take over the game with his arm and his legs, and should have no trouble moving the chains in the Super Bowl.

DeVonta Smith (WR) – AJ Brown may be this team’s top deep threat, but don’t be surprised if DeVonta Smith produces some highlight reel plays of his own in Super Bowl 57. The former first-round pick led the team with 95 receptions this year and is quickly becoming one of the NFL’s top possession receivers.

Haason Reddick (LB) – Having joined the Eagles this offseason, Reddick has quickly made his mark in a defensive front that’s already loaded with talent. The speedy linebacker’s 16 sacks were second-most in the NFL this season and he’s already racked up 3.5 sacks in just two playoff games.

CJ Gardner-Johnson (S) – Philly has a pair of shut down cornerbacks, but it’s safety Gardner-Johnson who’s been turning heads in the secondary. Another solid offseason acquisition by the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson’s six interceptions tied him for the league lead despite only playing in 12 regular season games.
