Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5) Total: 50.5
Kansas City Chiefs
This year’s Kansas City Chiefs took a different route to the Super Bowl than they have in their recent Super Bowl appearances. The Chiefs did not enter the 2022 season as the public favorite in the AFC; that team was the Buffalo Bills.
Last offseason the Denver Broncos acquired Russell Wilson. That move, coupled with the development of Justin Herbert and optimism of the Las Vegas Raiders, made many NFL fans think the AFC West would be up for grabs this season. Many pundits said the AFC West was the best division in football… we didn’t get too long into the season before we realized the AFC West would still run through Arrowhead.
The Chiefs started the season winning five of their first seven games. One of those losses came vs. the Buffalo Bills, fueling the fire behind Buffalo being the team to beat in the AFC. The Chiefs only lost one game after their bye in Week 8, versus the Cincinnati Bengals. The Chiefs went on to easily win the AFC West and in the process they finished the year as the AFC’s top seed.
Without the explosive plays from Tyreek Hill in the offense the Chiefs leaned on Travis Kelce, and a committee of backs and receivers to keep the offense rolling. The defense was led by Defensive Player of the Year candidate Chris Jones. This year more than ever the Chiefs looked to their leader and MVP favorite quarterback Patrick Mahomes to win games for them. Mahomes was brilliant this season. His play along with the coaching of Andy Reid are the main reason the Chiefs are playing for all the marbles on Super Bowl Sunday.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since they won their first ever Super Bowl after the 2017 season. The Eagles did not enter this season as the favorites in the NFC. The Rams, Buccaneers and Packers all had shorter Super Bowl odds than the eagles coming into the season. Despite other teams having shorter Super Bowl odds many people had the eagles as a team that could win the NFC. The Eagles didn’t take long to prove their backers correct. Philadelphia began the season on an 8-game winning streak, they didn’t lose their first game until week 10 vs. the Commanders.
The Eagles were excellent on both sides of the ball this season but the play of quarterback Jalen Hurts was spectacular. Hurts had a historic season, he threw for over 3,700 hundred yards, with 22 TD passes and only 6 interceptions. He also ran for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. If it wasn’t for a late season shoulder injury, Hurts would likely be getting ready to win the MVP award. The Eagles two late season losses came with back-up quarterback Gardner Minshew under center, meaning Hurts only lost a single game this season.
Official Pick: Chiefs Money Line (+105)
Super Bowl 57 will come down to the play of these two brilliant quarterbacks. I expect both quarterbacks to be fully healthy for this game. With that being the case I’m taking the Kansas City Chiefs on the Money Line as my official play for Super Bowl 57. Patrick Mahomes will win the game for his team as he has done all season. Hurts youth in this spot will show up late in the game.
