NFL Week 9 Preview
The past few days capped off another wild week of NFL football, as we saw a number of betting upsets on Sunday. It was the week of the backup quarterback as the Jets, Saints and Cowboys were all led to victory by their second-string signal callers. It’s also worth noting that Titans running back, and current NFL rushing leader, Derrick Henry got hurt over the weekend and will be out for the next 6-10 weeks.
As we look ahead to Week 9 of the NFL season, let’s review a few of the more interesting betting matchups, based on their current odds at Bovada Sportsbook.
Week 9 NFL Previews
New England Patriots (-3.5) at Carolina Panthers (+3.5)
Following their huge road win over the Chargers, the 4-4 Patriots head to Carolina with a chance to rise above .500 for the first time this season. The real question in this betting matchup is who will play at quarterback for the 4-4 Panthers? Sam Darnold suffered a concussion last week and could be replaced by backup PJ Walker. Whichever QB gets the job, they’ll have their hands full versus New England head coach, Bill Belichick, and a Patriots defense giving up just 20.5 points per game.
Arizona Cardinals (-2.5) at San Francisco 49ers (+2.5)
This game features yet another road favorite as the 7-1 Cardinals look to bounce back from their first loss of the year when they take on the 3-4 49ers. Arizona QB Kyler Murray has been incredible this season, but keep an eye on the health of his favorite target, WR Deandre Hopkins. San Francisco are coming off a solid win over the Bears, but the 49ers are just 2-5 against the spread this season based on Bovada’s NFL odds and are tough to bet on when you see their injury report.
Green Bay Packers (+2.5) at Kansas City Chiefs (-2.5)
This would have been a marquee matchup in years past, but the Chiefs have looked downright awful so far this season. Kansas City are 4-4 and still in AFC playoff contention, but they’ve only covered the spread twice this year. The 7-1 Packers have been a much safer bet this season, going 7-1 against the spread heading into Week 9. They’ll be hoping to have WR Davante Adams back in the lineup after he missed last week’s game on the COVID list, but QB Aaron Rodgers reminded everyone that he is more than capable of getting the job done all by himself.
Tennessee Titans (+7.5) at Los Angeles Rams (-7.5)
In a potential Super Bowl preview, the 6-2 Titans play the 7-1 Rams on Week 9’s edition of Sunday Night Football. As mentioned earlier, RB Derrick Henry will be out for Tennessee, which explains why they are such large betting underdogs. It also doesn’t help that their opponent has looked unstoppable lately, as the Rams have put together four-straight wins in convincing fashion. With the news breaking about Los Angeles’ acquisition of elite LB Von Miller, the Rams should attract plenty of interesting prop bets down the stretch.
