KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at BALTIMORE RAVENS

The Kansas City Chiefs provided yet another playoff thriller against the Buffalo Bills last weekend, doing just enough to send Josh Allen & Co. to the sidelines until next September.

Although Patrick Mahomes is missing his high-octane offensive weapons from recent years, and even with TE Travis Kelce slowing down, he still manages to find a way to rise to the occasion in big games. Ok, that’s an understatement.

Mahomes is spectacular in the playoffs, with 13 wins and only 3 losses. He has passed for an average of 285 yards passing in those 16 game, with 38 TDs and only 7 interceptions. By contrast, his QB counterpart for this massive NFL Conference Championships matchup, the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, is 2-3 all time in the postseason.

Some bettors might look at that comparison and go with the Chiefs +160 moneyline without a second thought. But they’ll have to overlook Jackson’s 100-yard rushing performance last weekend against the Houston Texans, a game which saw him throw two TDs and run for two more. On top of that, he’s almost guaranteed to win the NFL MVP award for the 2023-24 season. Maybe this just isn’t the same Lamar Jackson anymore.

Then there’s the Ravens’ defense, who gave up the fewest points in the league this season. Plus, they led the NFL in sacks and takeaways. An MVP QB plus a stingy D? Could be a winning combo.

All this is why the spread is currently sitting at -3.5 for Baltimore. But for fans who are leaning into some Mahomes magic to keep the game close, they might like the fact the Ravens are a rather average 6-4 ATS this season.

Digging deeper, it wouldn’t be the NFL Conference Championships without tons of tasty props ready and waiting in Bovada’s Prop Builder.

If you like the Ravens’ powerful defense to produce some winning bet slips for you, consider +209 on a defensive or special teams scored. The crowd will be in a frenzy, and the Chiefs’ wide receivers had the most dropped passes in the league this year – it’s not hard to imagine a jittery first quarter tipped ball going to a hungry Baltimore DB for a pick six.

You like dark horses and bigger odds? KC’s explosive running back Isiah Pacheco might see a lot of action to eat up some clock and keep the ball out of Lamar’s hands. We’re looking at a Pacheco prop of 100+ rushing yards and 2 TDs at a pretty tempting +1500.

And now we come back full circle to Mahomes. Heading into his sixth straight AFC Conference Championship game, he seems built for this time of year. When the game is on the line, he creates his own opportunities.

Looking for low odds but high confidence wagers? For Mahomes to have over 25.5 yards rushing for the game, the odds are currently at -120.

DETROIT LIONS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

The Detroit Lions are hitting the NFC Conference Championship game for the first time since the 1991 season. That’s not a typo. That’s 32 seasons of futility. Over three decades of not even catching a whiff of potential Super Bowl action. But the oddsmakers aren’t giving the Lions any sympathy points. The San Francisco 49ers are still heading into the game as 7-point favorites and a moneyline of -330.

The spread might be even higher, but the status of the Niners’ Swiss army knife, Deebo Samuel, is up in the air. His shoulder is not fractured as first thought, but he likely won’t be at 100% even if he does play.

If wagering the Over/Unders is your thing, keep in mind that San Francisco and Detroit had the NFL’s 2nd and 3rd-ranked offenses, respectively, during the regular season. It’s why the oddsmakers set the O/U at 51 points. But keep an eye out for Samuel’s playing status closer to game time – he could make the difference in terms of total points scored.

Vibe-wise, many fans were less than impressed last week as the 49ers’ star-studded lineup barely beat the Green Bay Packers. QB Brock Purdy blamed some of his mediocre performance on the weather, struggling to grip the ball. With a clearer forecast ahead for this weekend, he could be due for a rebound against a Lions’ pass defense that ranked a kitten-like 27th in the league.

With that in mind, props on a better passing performance from the Niners might be the way to go this weekend. Bovada’s Prop Builder has tons of ways to play the passing game and more. If you’re expecting a shootout, we’re looking at +1100 for Purdy to throw for 340+ yards and Lions’ QB Jared Goff to rack up 320+ yards.

A more moderate bet would be on the other side of the ball. Detroit’s relentless edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson has averaged 2 sacks over his last 4 games, and he’s at +250 to pick up two or more this Sunday.

If it’s even safer odds you’re into, expect Christian McCaffrey to shoulder (pun intended – sorry Deebo) the load even more if Samuel is a no-go. You can even tailor your bet with the odds changing accordingly for every 10 yards. For example, Bovada’s odds are at -113 for McCaffrey to rush for at least 88 yards. Bump that up to 98 yards, and you’ll get +119, with bigger odds every 10 yards after that.

Next up, the winners of these two marvelous matchups in Super Bowl LVIII. Tons of props and all the lines coming your way.
