2020 College Football Betting Update
NCAA Football Preview
Following a summer filled with doubt and speculation, the 2020 college football season is on track and ready to kick-off! The impact of COVID-19 has undoubtedly had an impact on this year’s NCAA odds, with some notable teams and even entire conferences sitting out due to health concerns. With that being said, fans of NCAA betting are just happy to see players taking the field. If you love college football and always keep an eye on NCAA odds, here’s a quick preview on three of the NCAA’s power conferences.
SEC Preview
For those of you that think the Southeastern Conference has the best level of play in the nation, the SEC’s 2020 season will provide plenty of excitement as they have committed to a schedule of conference games only. This year will be great for NCAA betting and the college football odds makers, as there won’t be any tune-up games with teams from weaker conferences; it’ll be a 10-game season of good, old-fashioned SEC football. There will be three familiar foes battling it out for bragging rights in the SEC odds: The Auburn Tigers, the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
- Following his promising freshmen year, Auburn will have QB Bo Nix leading the offense. The team will be relying on Nix to take a step forward this year, and he has the weapons on offense to make it happen. The SEC odds have Auburn as one of the top teams in the nation for the 2020 season.
- Speaking of quarterbacks, the LSU Tigers will be missing a big one by the name of Joe Burrow. Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner will be sorely missed, as will four starters on the offensive line, five receivers and their leading rusher! Expect LSU to fall back to earth and have their NCAA odds slip after an incredible 15-0 campaign in 2019.
- Alabama is another team with some major departures, including QB Tua Tagovailoa, as well as WR’s Henry Ruggs and Jerry Jeudy. That is a big loss for any offense, but with Nick Saban at the helm and the Tide’s incredible depth throughout the roster, Alabama has some of the best SEC odds, as well as overall college football odds as one of the best teams in the country.
ACC Preview
The ACC is returning to action in 2020 and things should get interesting as the 15 teams in the conference compete for the conference championship. Although there are a number of teams with compelling storylines heading into the year, most NCAA odds makers have this conference coming down to just two teams; The Clemson Tigers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
- Over the last 5 years, the Clemson Tigers have gone 69-5 with 5 ACC titles, 5 CFP appearances and 2 National Championships. Need I say more? Led by head coach Dabo Sweeney, the Tigers have become perennial contenders and the latest college football odds reflect as much. With star QB Trevor Lawrence heading to the NFL after the season, you can bet that Clemson will be looking to make his final year count.
- Due to COVID-19, Notre Dame’s will be playing the year as a member of the ACC. Their presence is sure to be noticed by NCAA betting fans, as the program went an impressive 11-2 last year. The Irish are led by QB Ian Book, who is 20-3 as a starter and has 57 career TD passes for Notre Dame. Combining the talent of Book with one of the best offensive lines in college football, and you can expect some great competition down the stretch in the ACC.
Big12 Preview
The Big12 is set to kick-off another year of college football, and once again the Oklahoma Sooners are the favorite among NCAA betting circles to win the conference, according to the latest college football odds. The defending Big12 champions will face plenty of competition this year, with both the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma State Cowboys looking to defy NCAA odds and challenge the Sooners for the Big12 title.
- With Jalen Hurts now gone to the NFL, the Oklahoma Sooners turn to sophomore QB Spencer Rattler to lead the team to a sixth-consecutive Big12 title. That may too big a task for the young QB, especially with WR CeeDee Lamb also gone to the NFL and WR Kennedy Brooks opting out to prepare for the NFL. With all of this turnover, some recruits are going to need to step up for the Sooners to defend their title.
- For the Texas Longhorns, the 2020 season may be head coach Tom Herman’s final chance to turn things around. NCAA betting fans were disappointed with mediocre 8-5 campaign last year that saw Texas rank just 14th in the nation in total offense, and the team will need to improve if they want to challenge the Sooners for the Big12 title. It helps that QB Sam Ehlinger is returning this season, but the Longhorns’ college football odds are hurt by the loss of their top two receiving options from last year, Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson.
- The Oklahoma State Cowboys had an electric offense last year, but a lack of consistency was ultimately their downfall. It looks like Spencer Sanders will be starting at quarterback this year, but the big news is that the Big12’s reigning offensive player of the year, versatile RB Chubba Hubbard, has returned for another season. If WR Tylan Wallace can bounce back after last year’s torn ACL, this offense should once again be rolling for the Cowboys.
