The series follows Johnny Lawrence’s journey to redemption. After losing his job, he re-opens the Cobra Kai dojo and begins teaching Karate. Ultimately, this re-ignites his rivalry with old-foe Daniel LaRusso, who now owns a successful car dealership.

Cobra Kai’s cast includes many of the original actors from 1984’s The Karate Kid movie including: William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and Martin Kove (John Kreese), plus many more.
The first two seasons of Cobra Kai (2018 and 2019) were released on YouTube Red, however, after the production of season three was finished, YouTube stopped producing scripted original programming. Subsequently, Netflix swooped in and acquired the rights, releasing season three and four in 2021. Shortly before the premier of season four, Cobra Kai was renewed for season 5 and has since wrapped filming. Netflix have announced that Cobra Kai Season 5 will be released on September 9, 2022.
