Warriors Favored on 2019 NBA Championship Odds

2019 NBA All Star Game Odds

After successfully defending their NBA championship with a four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors have opened as +130 favorites to win a third straight title on the 2019 NBA championship odds.

Golden State dominated in its fourth straight meeting with the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. The Warriors capitalized on Cleveland guard JR Smith’s now infamous mistake late in Game 1, which denied the Cavaliers a chance to claim victory with a buzzer-beater, on their way to a 121-114 overtime victory as 12.5-point favorites.

Demoralized by their Game 1 loss, the Cavaliers were unable to recover in the series, which closed out with Golden State’s lopsided 108-85 win as 4.5-point road chalk in Game 4. That contest possibly marked impending free agent LeBron James’ final game in a Cavaliers jersey, a reality that has been reflected on the NBA futures odds, where Cleveland has opened as a lengthy +2200 bet for next season.

It remains unclear what team James will suit up for in 2018/19. However, the leading candidates all closely trail the Warriors on the 2019 NBA title futures odds.

Winners of a league-leading 65 games during the regular season, the Houston Rockets sit second to the Warriors at +525, just ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers at +550, while the Boston Celtics join the Los Angeles Lakers at +600.

Led by NBA MVP nominee James Harden, the Rockets rode a late-season 28-1 straight up run to the top of the NBA standings, and came within one win of a berth in the NBA Finals before falling to the Warriors in seven games in the Western Conference Finals.

Sixers a Destination for James, Leonard?

The Sixers ended a dismal five-year playoff drought in impressive fashion, closing out their schedule on a 17-game SU win streak to earn the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia has been discussed as a potential destination for James, and remains in the mix as a possible new home for Kawhi Leonard, with the 76ers sporting +500 odds of landing the disgruntled San Antonio Spurs forward, who reportedly demanded a trade this past week.

Philadelphia saw its magical run halted with a second-round series loss to a Celtics squad that marched to the Eastern Conference Finals despite the absence of Kyrie Irving. James’ former Cavaliers teammate was sidelined throughout the playoffs due to a knee injury, and has been the subject of ongoing trade speculation since the end of the season.

The Lakers missed the postseason for a franchise record fifth straight year, but have been linked to both James and Leonard, who has reportedly expressed desire to get dealt to Los Angeles.

Further down the 2019 NBA championship odds, the Spurs sit just ahead of Cleveland at +2000, and well ahead of the Miami Heat at +4400.

The Toronto Raptors finished second only to Houston with 59 regular season wins this past season, but flamed out once again in the postseason with a stunning four-game loss to the Cavaliers in the second round. Not surprisingly, the Raptors are pegged as a distant +6600 bet, while three teams are deadlocked at +7500 including the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
