Vargas vs. Broner Boxing Odds Roundup

Vargas vs. Broner Boxing Odds Roundup - Bovada Sporstbook

Jessie Vargas will be looking to tally consecutive wins in the ring for the first time since 2014 when he takes on Adrien Broner in a 144-pound catchweight fight on Saturday as a narrow -120 favorite on the boxing betting odds.

Vargas saw his reign atop the WBO welterweight division end with a unanimous decision loss to boxing legend Manny Pacquiao as a +550 bet in November 2016 but rebounded with a 10-round unanimous decision win over Aaron Herrera as -10000 chalk four months ago, and takes a 2-2-0 record in his past four fights into Saturday night’s matchup at Barclays Center.

Vargas’ recent struggles come on the heels of a dominating start to his professional boxing career that saw him post victories in his first 26 ring appearances. Vargas also enjoyed a brief stint as holder of both the WBA and IBO super lightweight titles after eking out a narrow unanimous decision over Russian Khabib Allakhverdiev as a -550 favorite in April 2014.

Vargas followed up with a pair of successful defenses of the WBA super lightweight crown in unanimous decision wins over Anton Novikov and Antonio DeMarco. However, a subsequent move to welterweight produced decidedly mixed results, with Vargas falling to Timothy Bradley in a bid for the WBO interim welterweight crown, and failing to pay out on +285 odds.

The 28-year-old Los Angeles native would eventually earn the WBO welterweight crown with his first win inside the distance in almost five years, claiming a TKO victory over Sadam Ali in March 2016, before losing the belt to Pacquiao just eight months later.

Broner Narrow Dog on Boxing Betting Odds

Broner will be aiming to get back into the win column as he enters the ring against Vargas as a narrow -110 underdog on the Vargas vs. Broner Fight odds. “The Problem” is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Mikey Garcia as a +325 bet, ending a three-fight win streak and dropping his pro boxing record to 33-3-0, with one no-contest.

Like Vargas, Broner has competed in several weight classes as a professional, and ascended to the WBA super lightweight championship after Vargas vacated the title, posting a 12th-round TKO victory over Allakhverdiev as -550 chalk in October 2015.

Broner was later stripped of the belt for missing weight ahead of a ninth-round TKO win over Ashley Theophane in April 2016, and struggled to escape with a split decision win in a 10-round clash with Adrian Granados just six months prior to last summer’s loss to Garcia.

A pair of championship fights open the card ahead of Saturday night’s Vargas versus Broner main event.

The night opens with a battle for the WBA super world super featherweight championship, with American Gervonta Davis pegged as a heavy -600 favorite while Argentina’s Jesus Cuellar steps into the ring as a +400 underdog.

Later, the vacant WBC interim middleweight title will be on the line as undefeated American Jermall Charlo pursues a 27th straight victory as a massive -5000 favorite in a clash with California native Hugo Centeno Jr., who enters his first world title fight as a distant +1400 underdog.
