United States Favorite on 2018 Ryder Cup Odds

The United States will be looking to claim victory in consecutive editions of the Ryder Cup for the first time since 1993 when they hit the links for this year’s tournament as solid -140 favorites to lift the trophy on the 2018 Ryder Cup odds.

Once dominant at golf’s premier biennial event, the Americans have struggled to top their European rivals in recent years, posting just three victories in the past 11 editions of the tournament. The United States is also winless in five straight events on European soil going into opening-round action at the Ryder Cup on September 28 at Le Golf National in Paris.

The Americans are coming off a big victory two years ago, dominating the Europeans in a 17-11 win that put the brakes on a streak of three straight losses. That run included a pair of heartbreaking defeats by a single point in both 2010 and 2012. Indeed, narrow victories have emerged as the hallmark of this event with six of the past 13 editions of the tournament getting settled by just a single point.

However, the tournament has ended in a dead heat just twice since its founding in 1927, with a bet on a tie this year pegged as a lengthy +1000 longshot on the three-way Ryder Cup betting odds.

Rising star Brooks Koepka leads all American golfers in the race to represent their country at this year’s Ryder Cup. Koepka has rapidly climbed to No. 2 on the Official World Golf ranking after claiming three major tournament titles in the past 14 months, most recently powering to victory at the PGA Championship and paying out on +2000 odds.

Koepka is also coming off an eighth-place finish at last week’s Northern Trust, the first test in this year’s FedExCup playoffs, and sports +1200 odds heading into the Dell Technologies Championship this week.

Other Americans currently poised to join Koepka in Paris include top-ranked Dustin Johnson, reigning Masters champion Patrick Reed, and three-time major winner Jordan Spieth.

Fresh off his victory at the Northern Trust as a lengthy +8000 bet, Bryson Dechambeau will be aiming to further strengthen his case to make his first Ryder Cup appearance as a captain’s pick as he prepares for the Dell Technologies Championship sporting +3300 odds. Tiger Woods’ strong second-place finish at the PGA Championship as a +2800 wager could also earn him an eighth career trip to the Ryder Cup.

Europe Underdogs on Odds to Win 2018 Ryder Cup

While the majority of the United States team is already set, spaces remain up for grabs on Team Europe, which is currently listed as an underdog +110 wager to lift the trophy on the odds to win the 2018 Ryder Cup.

Italy’s Francesco Molinari leads the way after claiming his first major title with an impressive victory at The Open Championship with +3300 odds, while other Europeans currently in position to qualify include Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, and a pair of Swedes, Alex Noren and Thorbjorn Oleson.

However, the European lineup will not be finalized until the conclusion of next week’s Made in Denmark tournament. Oleson leads the way as a +700 favorite on the Made in Denmark odds, while Ryder Cup contenders Matthew Fitzpatrick and Eddie Pepperell trail at +1600 and +2000, respectively.
