Nelson Favored on Fight Night 113 Odds

Nelson Favored on Fight Night 113 Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

Gunnar Nelson will be aiming for a third straight victory by submission on Sunday when he battles fellow welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio in the main event at UFC Fight Night 113 as a strong -160 favorite on the betting lines.

Nelson improved his professional MMA record to 16-2-1 with a second-round submission of Alan Jouban as a -305 favorite at UFC Fight Night 107, and takes 12 career submission wins into Sunday’s matchup at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Pegged at No. 8 on the UFC welterweight rankings, Nelson has earned Performance of the Night honors in each of his past two fights including his second-round submission win over Albert Tumenov as a +130 underdog at UFC Fight Night 87. He has taken home the bonus cash in four of his nine trips to the octagon since joining the UFC five years ago.

However, Nelson’s UFC record features a pair of notable blemishes, including a unanimous decision loss to Demian Maia as -135 chalk at UFC 194, and a split decision loss to Rick Story as a heavy -512 favorite at UFC Fight Night 53 in the only five-round fight of his UFC career. With those defeats, Gunni sits at 1-2 in three career fights decided by the judges.

Conversely, Ponzinibbio enters Sunday’s main event as a +130 underdog after claiming unanimous decision wins in his past two fights. Ponzinibbio earned a three-round victory over Nordine Taleb as -315 chalk in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 105 to improve his pro MMA record to 24-3, including a 6-2 mark in eight fights since joining the UFC in 2013.

While Ponzinibbio has demonstrated the ability to go the distance in the octagon with a 5-1 record in six career fights settled by the judges, the No. 14 welterweight contender has also displayed punching power.  Three of Ponzinibbio’s past six victories have come by first-round knockout or TKO, and the 30-year-old Argentine has finished 15 of his 27 career fights inside five minutes.

Calvillo, Marshman Also on Fight Night Card

In other UFC Fight Night 113 action Cynthia Calvillo makes her UFC debut as a -225 betting favorite, taking on fellow women’s +175 strawweight Joanne Calderwood. Lightweights Stevie Ray and Paul Felder clash it out with Ray listed as a -140 favorite and Felder as a +110 underdog, while Welshman Jack “Hammer” Marshman is a heavy -500 favorite as he takes on Canadian Ryan Janes, who trails +350 odds for their middleweight matchup.
