Yoel Romero aims to bounce back from the first unanimous decision loss of his professional MMA career when he battles former champion Luke Rockhold for the interim UFC middleweight title this weekend as a +130 underdog on the UFC 221 odds.

Romero went a full five rounds for the first time in his career in his last octagon appearance. However, he fell by unanimous decision to Robert Whittaker as a -105 underdog in a UFC 213 battle for the interim UFC middleweight crown, and takes a 12-2 pro MMA record into this weekend’s fight at Perth Arena in Perth, Australia.

The loss to Whittaker also marks Romero’s first defeat since joining the UFC, but the former world champion wrestler has regularly taken home bonuses during his five years with the promotion.

Romero has twice earned Performance of the Night bonuses against top-flight opponents. The 40-year-old finished former champion Chris Weidman with a third-round knockout as a +175 bet at UFC 205 and claimed a third-round KO victory over Lyoto Machida as a +140 underdog at UFC Fight Night 70.

While Romero hopes to redeem himself in his second straight title bid, Rockhold has shown steady progress on the UFC 221 betting lines, where he is now perched as -160 chalk.

The 33-year-old has emerged as a clear favorite for the seventh time in his past eight fights. Despite regularly gaining the confidence of oddsmakers, Rockhold will be looking to atone for a stunning loss to Englishman Michael Bisping as -650 chalk at UFC 199 that cost him the UFC middleweight crown.

Rockhold ascended to the top of the UFC middleweight division with a fourth-round TKO victory over Weidman at UFC 194. The win capped a five-fight win streak that featured a pair of first-round finishes against Costas Philippou and Tim Boetsch.

However, the California native has also proven his ability to go the distance, tallying two unanimous decision wins during his reign atop the Strikeforce middleweight division.

Blaydes Also Chalk on UFC 221 Betting Lines

Earlier on the card, American Curtis Blaydes hopes to continue his meteoric rise up the UFC heavyweight rankings as he battles veteran Mark Hunt as a -170 favorite on the UFC lines.

Blaydes has rocketed from No. 77 to the No. 9 contender during a four-fight unbeaten streak. He is coming off a second-round TKO of Oleksiy Oliynyk as a -315 bet at UFC 217, and has finished opponents in eight of his nine pro MMA victories.

Hunt returns to the octagon as a +140 bet on the UFC 221 odds after getting pulled from a scheduled clash with Marcin Tybura in November 2017 in light of controversial comments he made about the status of his health.

The Super Samoan handed Derrick Lewis a fourth-round TKO while earning Fight of the Night honors in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 110, but has failed to record consecutive wins since posting first-round knockout wins over Antonio Silva and Frank Mir almost two years ago.

Li Jingliang vies for a fifth straight victory as he battles Australian Jake Matthews as a -155 favorite on the UFC 221 lines in a clash of welterweights, while Tai Tuivasa takes on fellow heavyweight Cyril Asker as a heavy -300 favorite.
