Tim Tebow MLB Odds Paint Him as Underdog

Tim Tebow MLB Odds Paint Him as Underdog - Bovada Sportsbook

Tim Tebow saw his first appearance in Grapefruit League action put on hold last week after the former Heisman Trophy winner suffered an ankle injury in a freak accident at the New York Mets’ spring training facility.

While the injury has kept Tebow out of the lineup for the Mets’ first four spring training contests, the 30-year-old has held steady as a +500 wager on the Tim Tebow MLB odds to play in a Major League Baseball game at some time in the 2018 or 2019 regular seasons.

After seeing his NFL days come to an unceremonious end in September 2015 following a failed bid to revive his career as a third-string quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles, Tebow announced his intention to pursue a professional baseball career and was subsequently signed to a minor league deal by New York in September 2016.

Fans filled the seats to catch a glimpse of Tebow in his minor-league debut a year ago, which featured a home run in his first plate appearance with the St. Lucie Mets, an Advanced-A affiliate of the New York Mets that plays in the Florida State League.

A successful 62-game audition in St. Lucie eventually earned Tebow a promotion to the Full-A Columbia Fireflies of the South Atlantic League, where he closed out the season with just three HR and 23 RBI in 64 games. With those modest numbers on his resume, the former Gators football star is a +300 bet to make it to AAA this season on the Tim Tebow props.

Tebow Gets Vote of Confidence From Alderson

Tebow’s attempt to fulfill his dream of reaching the majors gained momentum a week ago, when Mets general manager Sandy Alderson gave him a very public vote of confidence.

New York is coming off a disappointing 70-92 campaign in 2017, ending a run of two straight postseason appearances, but is expected to show marked improvement in the upcoming campaign. The Mets sport strong -155 odds of winning OVER 81 games, and trail only the defending divisional champion Washington Nationals on the MLB futures as a +250 bet to win the NL East division title.

However, the Mets’ resurgence may work against Tebow in his attempt to become the first athlete to play in both the NFL and MLB since Brian Jordan ended a 14-year baseball career in 2006 as a member of the Atlanta Braves.

The Mets strengthened themselves during the offseason with the signing of veteran Jay Bruce, who is expected to be joined in the outfield by two-time all-star Yoenis Cespedes. The Mets also hope to have Michael Conforto back after the 24-year-old saw a breakout campaign ended by injury, while center fielder Juan Lagares expects to rebound after missing extended time last season due to injury.

New York’s outfield depth has worked against the odds of Tim Tebow making it to MLB. The 6′ 3″, 230-pounder is listed as a -800 bet to not make a major league game appearance in 2018 or 2019, and also sports -450 odds on the Tim Tebow prop bets of not playing in a AAA class contest this season.
