Tide Tops College Football National Championship Odds

College Football Championship Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

The Alabama Crimson Tide have their sights set on a third national championship victory in four years as they prepare to open their 2018 college football campaign as strong +220 favorites on the odds to win the NCAAF National Championship.

Led by backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama marched to a stunning 26-23 comeback victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in last year’s College Football Playoff national championship, marking the third straight year that the Crimson Tide had competed for the national title.

Alabama was denied a fourth straight undisputed SEC West division title, and suffered their lone defeat of the season, in a 26-14 loss to Auburn as 5-point road chalk in their annual Iron Bowl matchup. However, the Crimson Tide unsurprisingly sit perched atop the odds to return to the top of the SEC West, sporting short -215 odds. The team is also pegged at event odds on the SEC championship odds.

With his clutch credentials cemented, Tagovailoa will battle Jalen Hurts for the Tide’s starting quarterback job this season, and the 20-year-old Hawaiian has been discussed as an early favorite to claim Heisman Trophy honors. The Crimson Tide kick off their 2018 campaign in a matchup with the visiting Louisville Cardinals on Saturday night as massive 24.5-point favorites.

Alabama’s ACC rivals, the Clemson Tigers, sit second on the College Football National Championship odds at +400, ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes at +750, while the Georgia Bulldogs round out the front of the pack at +800.

The Tigers overachieved in what was expected to be a rebuilding year last season, earning a third straight berth in the College Football Playoff while racking up a 12-1 record. But the team saw the defense of their 2017 national title end on New Year’s Day with a lopsided 24-6 loss to Alabama at the Sugar Bowl as 3.5-point underdogs.

However, the core of the Tigers offense is expected to return, with Kelly Bryant getting the official call earlier this week as the team’s starting quarterback when they open their schedule on Saturday against the FCS Furman Paladins.

Buckeyes Among Title Odds Favorites Despite Turmoil

The Buckeyes maintain solid NCAA Football Championship odds despite the swirl of controversy that has enveloped the club this summer, as head coach Urban Meyer struggles to survive a scandal related to former assistant coach Zach Smith.

Ohio State will be without Meyer for the first three games of the season while he serves a three-game suspension, and must adjust to Dwayne Haskins as the squad’s newly minted starting quarterback. However, that has not dampened the Buckeyes’ position as +150 favorites to emerge as Big Ten conference champions.

Last year’s meltdown in the national championship game proved to be a heartbreaker for the Bulldogs. Georgia was otherwise dominant during the regular season, surrendering more than 17 points on just two occasions while amassing a 12-1 record, and is pegged as a strong -210 favorite to repeat as SEC East division champions.

Elsewhere on the College Football National Championship odds, the Washington Huskies sit at +1500, ahead of Michigan at +1800, and Auburn at +2200, while Wisconsin sits alongside Oklahoma at +2600.
