Sixers Host Celtics in Marquee NBA Betting Clash

Bet on NBA basketball odds

After rolling to a high-scoring win and cover on the NBA odds against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday the Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to repeat that performance on Tuesday night in a much more meaningful contest when they play host to the division-rival Boston Celtics as 5.5-point betting favorites at home.

The Sixers outscored the Lakers 67-53 in the second half on Sunday to grab a 143-120 victory, as they had no trouble covering the 7-point spread as home favorites on the NBA betting lines in the contest. The large combined score also turned the game into an OVER result for NBA bettors, which ended a run of five straight UNDER results in Sixers games.

Philadelphia also put to an end a two-game straight up and against the spread losing streak with back-to-back victories over the Denver Nuggets last Friday and the Lakers on Sunday. The Sixers had been set as 6.5-point favorites in the 117-100 win over the Nuggets last week.

Tobias Harris made his debut for the Sixers in their win over the Nuggets, scoring 14 points in 32 minutes of action in the victory, while J.J. Redick scored a team-high 34 points on the night. Harris then had 22 points against the Lakers, with Joel Embiid pouring in 37 points.

The Celtics, meanwhile, went in the opposite direction over the past week, following up a five-game winning streak by getting bounced 129-128 by the Lakers as 9-point home favorites on the basketball betting lines last Thursday and 123-112 by the Clippers as 11.5-point home favorites on Saturday. Both of those games turned out to be OVER results for bettors.

That set of results has allowed the Sixers to pass the Celtics in the Eastern Conference standings, with Philadelphia (36-20) a single game ahead of Boston (35-21) for fourth place behind the Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, and Indiana Pacers. Both teams have been middling betting options this season, with the Sixers 27-29 ATS and the Celtics 27-28-1 ATS.

Celtics Have ATS Edge on Sixers on NBA Odds

But the Celtics have been a strong betting option in the past couple of seasons in games against the Sixers, going 8-2 both SU and ATS in their past 10 meetings dating back to late 2017. That includes two victories by Boston over Philadelphia already this season by scores of 105-87 on October 16 and 121-114 on December 25, both times as 5-point home favorites.

And despite their slightly worse record, the Celtics also hold the edge on the Sixers on the NBA betting futures board heading into this weekend’s All-Star break. Boston sits at +200 on the odds to win the the Eastern Conference, with Philadelphia a step behind them at +250. The Celtics are also listed at +950 on the NBA championship odds, with the Sixers set at +1200 on the NBA title lines. Golden State remains the clear favorite there as -230 chalk. Tuesday night’s tipoff is set for 8:00pm ET at the Wells Fargo Center, with Celtics star Kyrie Irving declared out for the game after he left the team’s loss to the Clippers with a strained knee on the weekend. Irving is averaging 23.6 points per game so far this season for Boston.
