With Russell Wilson closer to peak form and the threat of nasty Pacific Northwest weather lasting until kickoff, the Seattle Seahawks are betting favorites against the high-flying Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks go into the showdown of division leaders listed as the six-point favorite against the visiting Falcons, with the total at 45.5.

The Seahawks are 25-5 SU in their last 30 home games at CenturyLink Field. The rainy weather that is forecast in the Pacific Northwest could aid Seattle’s No. 1-ranked defense more than Atlanta’s No. 1-ranked offense.

Seattle’s bye week was well-timed for Wilson, who played with sprains to his left knee and right ankle in Week 4. Curiously, the Seahawks are just 3-3 straight-up and 3-2-1 against the spread in post-bye week games under coach Pete Carroll. Speedy WR Tyler Lockett (knee) was also limited prior to the break, so he might be more capable of testing a Falcons defense that has already allowed 14 touchdown passes. Tight end Jimmy Graham is also coming off consecutive 100-yard receiving games.

Up front, the Seahawks offensive line was inconsistent through the first four games. Containing Falcons OLB Vic Beasley will be a challenge, although Seattle is running the ball well with RB Christine Michael.

Atlanta handed the Denver Broncos a home defeat last week, and is 7-1 SU and ATS in their last eight games after winning as an underdog. While the Falcons are a dome team, they spent the entire week practising outdoors in Seattle to prepare.

There is much more to the Falcons’ offense than QB Matt Ryan airing out to WR Julio Jones, who will likely have star CB Richard Sherman guarding him on Sunday. The Falcons’ 1-2 punch of RB Tevin Coleman and RB Devonta Freeman creates mismatches for opposing linebackers. How Seattle responds will be interesting, especially since it’s their first game since placing starting OLB Mike Morgan (sports hernia) on injured reserve.

Atlanta’s offensive line was able to keep the Denver Broncos’ vaunted pass rush in check in Week 5. Seattle has multiple sack threats, including DE Cliff Avril, DE Michael Bennett and OLB K.J. Wright.

The Falcons are 4-1 SU in their last five games against the Seahawks. The total has gone over in four of the Falcons’ last five games against the Seahawks. The total has gone over in nine of the Seahawks’ last 12 games against teams with winning records.
