Red Sox the Favorites on World Series Odds

2018 MLB World Series Odds

The Boston Red Sox will be aiming to cap a franchise record-setting 2018 season with a championship as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in this year’s Fall Classic as -165 favorites on the World Series odds.

Boston emerged as the class of the majors this season, compiling the best record in baseball with a franchise-record 108 wins, and has needed just nine postseason contests to earn a berth in this year’s World Series which kicks off with Tuesday night’s Game 1 at Fenway Park.

After losing four of six to New York during the final month of the season, Boston rebounded to claim a four-game series victory over the Yankees in the ALDS. In addition, the Red Sox needed just five games to get past the defending champion Houston Astros in their ALCS matchup, and advance to the World Series for the first time since 2013.

While the Red Sox have been dominant during their current 6-1 run, averaging seven runs per game while limiting opponents to three or fewer runs in four of those outings, they have produced uneven results on home turf since late in the regular season. Boston is just 3-5 in its past eight outings at Fenway Park, giving up over 7.5 runs per game during that stretch.

Despite those shaky numbers, the Red Sox sit as favorites entering Tuesday night’s contest, set at -147 on the World Series game line odds. Boston has also been a solid bet during their three World Series appearances since 2004. The Red Sox have gone 12-2 during that stretch, including a 6-1 mark at Fenway Park, where they have held opponents to just a single run in four of their past five Fall Classic outings.

This year’s World Series marks the first time that these two teams have battled for baseball supremacy since 1916. The Red Sox needed just five games then to get past the Dodgers, who were widely known as the Robins at the time.

Dodgers Trailing on World Series Betting Lines

The Dodgers have won six World Series titles since that clash of charter clubs 102 years ago, but arrive in Boston amid a 30-year championship drought and as +135 underdogs in World Series betting.

Los Angeles has been a perennial playoff contender in recent years, qualifying for the postseason by claiming the NL West title in each of the past six seasons. After coming up short in the previous four years, Los Angeles finally reached the World Series last year, but went home empty-handed after falling to the Houston Astros with a 5-1 loss in Game 7.

The club returned to action this season trailing only the Astros as a +500 bet on the World Series odds, but endured a dismal spring, posting just 16 wins in their first 42 outings, and needed a tiebreaker victory over the Colorado Rockies to finally claim the NL West title.

The Dodgers had little difficulty getting past Atlanta in four games in the NLDS, but then needed seven games to knock off the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS, capped by a 5-1 Game 7 win in Milwaukee as +100 underdogs on Saturday night. The Dodgers have recorded just one win in six visits to Boston during the interleague era.
