Justify, Good Magic Lead Preakness Stakes Odds

Justify, Good Magic Lead Preakness Stakes Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

After running to a 2.5-length victory two weeks ago as a 13/4 favorite at the Kentucky Derby, Justify has galloped to the top of the odds to win the 2018 Preakness Stakes where he is perched as a heavy 4/9 favorite.

The son of 2007 Florida Derby winner Scat Daddy has been unbeatable since making his debut just three months ago, going unbeaten in four races, including an impressive victory at the Santa Anita Derby.

In addition, Justify also defied Apollo’s Curse in his run to victory at Churchill Downs, where he became the first horse to win the Kentucky Derby without racing as a two-year-old since Apollo accomplished the feat way back in 1882.

Justify will once again start from the No. 7 post in the 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday afternoon at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. That marks the third straight race in which Justify has drawn into a favorable post position, after starting the Santa Anita Derby from the No. 6 position and the Kentucky Derby from No. 7.

Handled by legendary trainer Bob Baffert, who has six Preakness Stakes wins to his credit, Justify has also emerged as an intriguing 6/4 bet to follow in the footsteps of another Baffert-trained colt, American Pharoah, who claimed all three jewels in the Triple Crown of American thoroughbred racing just three years ago. Justify also sports 5/2 odds on the Preakness Stakes props of finishing second in this weekend’s race.

Good Magic Second on Preakness Stakes Betting Odds

However, Justify is likely to face stiff competition from the second-place finisher in this year’s Run for the Roses, Good Magic, who also sits second on the Preakness Stake odds at 3/1.

Good Magic has a pair of wins to his credit, including a 1.5-length win at Keeneland in this year’s Blue Grass Stakes as a 2/1 favorite. Good Magic’s jockey, Jose Ortiz, has also enjoyed considerable success, with 19 stakes race victories and a win atop Tapwrit at last year’s Belmont Stakes to pay out on 15/2 odds.

Two other horses will be in the field at the Preakness Stakes that participated in the Kentucky Derby, including Bravazo, who will start from the outside as a 18/1 bet, and Lone Sailor, who is listed at 20/1 after drawing the No. 2 post position.

Bravazo has made a pair of trips to the winner’s circle, most recently claiming victory in the Risen Star Stakes, but has struggled in his past two outings, turning in a disappointing eighth-place performance in the Louisiana Derby before coming in sixth at the Kentucky Derby as a 15/2 wager.

Lone Sailor impressed in a thrilling run at the Louisiana Derby, but came up just short of the win in a photo finish, and took a step back on the muddy track at Churchill Downs, finishing eighth while sporting 5/1 Kentucky Derby odds.

A late withdrawal from the Kentucky Derby, Quip returns to action at Pimlico, where he will start on the rail, listed at 14/1 on the Preakness Stakes betting odds. Diamond King joins Lone Sailor at 20/1, well ahead of Tenfold at 33/1, while Sporting Chance trails the pack as a 40/1 longshot.
