Alvarez Faces Poirier as Underdog on UFC Calgary Odds

UFC on Fox 30 Fight Odds - Bovada

Eddie Alvarez will be aiming to tally consecutive wins for the first time in over two years when he enters the octagon for a highly anticipated rematch with Dustin Poirier on Saturday as a +135 underdog on the UFC on Fox 30 odds.

“The Underground King” is coming off a third-round knockout of fellow lightweight Justin Gaethje as a +150 underdog at UFC 218, which marks his only victory in his past three UFC event appearances going into Saturday night’s Dustin Poirier vs. Eddie Alvarez bout at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.

After falling to veteran Donald Cerrone in a three-round unanimous decision loss in his UFC debut at UFC 178, Alvarez posted a trio of victories, capped by a stunning first-round knockout of Rafael dos Anjos as a +230 underdog at UFC Fight Night 90 that earned him the UFC lightweight championship.

Alvarez’s championship reign ended with a second-round TKO loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 205. The 34-year-old subsequently battled Poirier at UFC 211 in a fight that was stopped in the second round after Alvarez delivered an illegal knee to the head of Poirier, and was ultimately recorded as a no contest.

Poirier the Chalk on UFC on Fox 30 Fight Odds

Poirier was listed as -130 chalk in that UFC 211 clash, and returns to take on Alvarez as a -165 favorite on the UFC Calgary odds.

“The Diamond” has tallied a pair of wins since that outing, picking up a third-round TKO victory over Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night 120, before knocking out Gaethje in the fourth round at UFC on Fox 29, paying out on narrow -120 odds and earning his third Fight of the Night bonus in his past four fights.

Elsewhere on the UFC on Fox 30 fight odds this weekend, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo hopes to begin his climb back up the UFC featherweight division rankings, as he takes on Jeremy Stephens as a -130 favorite.

Aldo became the inaugural UFC lightweight champion when joining the promotion as WEC champion back in April 2011, and held the belt for over four years before falling to Conor McGregor in spectacular fashion at UFC 194 as -125 chalk.

The 31-year-old rebounded to claim the interim UFC lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 on -105 odds, and was later promoted to undisputed champion after McGregor was stripped of the belt due to inactivity. However, the Brazilian veteran subsequently lost the belt to Max Holloway at UFC 212, and suffered a third-round TKO loss to Holloway as a +225 underdog in their rematch at UFC 218.

Stephens has won three straight to climb to No. 4 on the UFC featherweight rankings, including a second-round KO of Josh Emmett at UFC on Fox 28 that garnered him a Performance of the Night bonus, but owns a checkered 8-5 record in 13 fights as a featherweight.

Montreal’s Olivier Aubin-Mercier aims for a fifth straight victory, perched as a -130 favorite, as he takes on fellow lightweight Alexander Hernandez, who makes his second UFC appearance as a +100 underdog. And former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk looks to bounce back from the only two losses of her career as she battles Tecia Torres as -300 chalk.
