Patriots Super Bowl Odds Preview

Super Bowl 53 betting odds online.

The New England Patriots will be looking to establish a season-high four-game win streak against the spread when they hit the gridiron against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday as 3-point favorites on the Super Bowl odds.

New England emerged victorious in its eighth straight trip to the AFC Championship Game, knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs with a 37-31 victory, and will make a third straight Super Sunday appearance in Sunday’s matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Patriots have emerged as a steady wager during their drive towards a record 11th Super Bowl appearance. With their victory over the top-seeded Chiefs as 3-point underdogs, the Patriots are now poised to cover in four straight contests for the first time since tallying a 35-14 win over Tennessee as 13.5-point home chalk in Divisional Playoff action a year ago.

The team has struggled with consistency at the sportsbooks since the start of the season. The Patriots stumbled out of the gate to a middling 3-3 ATS start, a run that featured consecutive outright road losses to Jacksonville and Detroit, both times as betting favorites.

After covering in five of six midseason contests, New England again faltered down the stretch, failing to reward bettors in three of their final four regular-season outings. The Patriots eventually regained their form in a crushing 38-3 win over the New York Jets as 14-point chalk in Week 17 before silencing their critics with a 41-28 rout of the Los Angeles Chargers as 4-point betting favorites two weeks later.

Patriots Have Struggled on the Super Bowl Lines

But while the Patriots have enjoyed unprecedented success on the field during the Tom Brady era, claiming five Super Bowl titles in eight trips to the big game, they have produced mixed  results on the Super Bowl betting lines. New England has covered just three times over its past eight Super Bowl appearances, but has produced ATS wins in two of three appearances when pegged as a favorite of three or fewer points on the Super Bowl lines.

Recent Super Bowl matchups involving the Patriots have tended to be closely contested affairs. New England has claimed victory by an average margin of 3.8 points over their past five Super Bowl wins. In addition, seven of the past eight big games involving the Patriots have been settled by four or fewer points, with the glaring exception being last year’s 41-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles as 4.5-point chalk.

Not surprisingly, the Super Bowl score props favor a close finish to Sunday’s contest, with New England sporting +350 odds to claim victory by a margin of 1-6 points, while the Rams closely sit as a +375 wager to earn the win by the same margin.

The Patriots have also emerged as favorites on the Super Bowl odds to draw first blood, with a successful props wager on the scoring opening with a New England touchdown paying out on +165 odds. And New England is set as a betting favorite to seize an early lead in Sunday’s contest, sitting at +750 to hold an advantage of seven to nine points heading into halftime. The Patriots also sport +375 odds of taking a lead of 13 or more points into halftime, while there are strong +125 odds of Brady claiming Super Bowl MVP honors for the fifth time in his career.
