Oilers Visit Nashville as Underdogs on NHL Odds

NHL Playoff Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to string together three consecutive wins for the first time since the middle of December when they hit the ice in Nashville on Monday as +190 underdogs on the NHL odds.

Edmonton escaped with a narrow 2-1 win over the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Saturday despite the absence of Connor McDavid. The Oilers captain was sidelined after being slapped with a two-game suspension for an illegal hit to the head on New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy earlier in the week, and will remain unavailable to the club for Monday’s matchup at Bridgestone Arena.

Saturday’s victory over the Ducks as -150 home chalk marked the Oilers’ first victory in three games this season without McDavid in the lineup. While the club remains without their leader and biggest scoring threat, stingy goaltending has been the difference maker during a 2-0-1 run. The Oilers have surrendered just six total goals over their past three outings, with newly anointed starting goaltender Mikko Koskinen making 33 stops in two of those contests.

But while Koskinen has shone between the pipes, the Oilers offense has continued to struggle, potting two or fewer goals in seven of the team’s past nine contests. Edmonton’s anemic offense has also contributed to ongoing struggles on the road, with the club potting just four total goals in three straight losses away from Rogers Place.

Overall, the Oilers have failed to produce consecutive wins while going 4-6-3 over its past 13 road dates, a trend they must reverse as they embark on a crucial five-game road trip that is likely key to maintaining their slim playoff hopes.

Edmonton has tumbled to sixth place in the Pacific Division standings during their recent slide. Surprisingly, though, the club remains within striking distance of a playoff spot, just seven points back of Colorado with a game in hand.

Preds Back in Action as Favorites on NHL Odds

While the Oilers enter desperation mode in pursuit of a playoff berth, the Predators look to keep pace with the Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets as they return to action on Monday pegged as -235 favorites on the NHL betting odds.

Nashville is coming off a 5-0 loss to the Avalanche as a heavy -200 home favorite on the NHL lines, ending a two-game win streak and dumping the club’s record to a middling 5-5-1 over its past 11 outings.

The Predators have endured uncharacteristic woes on home ice of late, going 4-5-1 over their past 10 contests, and with a 20-12-1 record on the season have already surpassed last season’s total of just nine defeats in regulation at Bridgestone Arena. However, the club remains just a step back of the favorites at +1200 on the NHL Stanley Cup odds.

Nashville’s recent home dates have been low-scoring affairs. Nashville has potted just seven total goals over its past four home games while surrendering just a single goal on two occasions, generating a 4-0 run for the UNDER. The team has also dominated in recent dates with Edmonton, going 13-1-0 in 14 meetings since March 2014. However, their lone defeat came in the Oilers’ last visit to Nashville, a 5-3 loss as -210 chalk on October 27.
