NHL Rookie of the Year Odds November Update

Elias Pettersson continued his torrid early-season scoring pace on Friday night, potting two goals and three assists in the Vancouver Canucks’ 7-6 overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche. That cemented his position atop the NHL Rookie of the Year Odds as a -190 favorite.

Selected fifth overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old Swedish center has made a seamless transition to the NHL since opening the campaign as a +300 bet on the NHL ROTY betting odds. The top scorer in the Swedish Hockey League last season with 56 points in 44 games, Pettersson now leads all NHL rookies with nine goals and six assists despite missing six games with a concussion in late October.

Vancouver has reaped the benefits of Pettersson’s impressive NHL debut, posting wins in six of nine outings when their budding star is in the lineup. The hot start has lifted the Canucks into sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division, and boosted them to a +900 bet on the divisional futures, well ahead of the lengthy +5000 odds they sported on opening night.

It remains a three-way race for second spot on the 2018 NHL Rookie of the Year odds, with Andrei Svechnikov set at +700, just ahead of Miro Heiskanen at +800, and Rasmus Dahlin at +900.

Taken second overall by the Carolina Hurricanes at this year’s NHL Draft, Svechnikov has cooled off since opening the campaign with four points in his first four NHL contests. The 18-year-old Russian has been limited to just one goal over his past 10 games. However, the Hurricanes have remained patient with Svechnikov, who garnered honors as the Canadian Hockey League’s top draft prospect last season after tallying 40 goals and 32 assists in just 44 games with the Barrie Colts.

Defensemen Heiskanen, Dahlin Follow on Odds

Heiskanen has emerged as an important presence on the Dallas Stars blue line in his NHL debut. The third overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft has averaged almost 24 minutes of ice time over his past five outings, and leads all rookies with an average ice time of 21:53. The 19-year-old Finnish star has also chipped in four points in 13 games for the Stars, including a pair of game-winning goals.

The top pick in this year’s NHL Draft, Dahlin has been a steady presence on the Buffalo Sabres power play in the early going of the season. The 18-year-old Swede leads all rookie rearguards with an average of 2:46 of ice time on the power play. However, he has yet to be rewarded on the score sheet while playing with the extra man, notching five points in 14 games, all at even strength.

Further down the NHL Rookie of the Year betting odds, Brady Tkachuk joins Casey Mittelstadt at +1200, ahead of Kailer Yamamoto at +1500. Ryan Donato trails at +1600, with Jordan Kyrou at +1800, and Martin Necas at +2000, while Tampa Bay’s Anthony Cirelli trails at +2500 on those NHL betting props.

Tkachuk has held steady at +1200 despite seeing his debut with the Ottawa Senators limited to four games by an early-season leg injury. Mittelstadt has seen limited ice time, but has been a fixture on the Buffalo Sabres second power play unit.
