Neymar Favored to Move to PSG on Odds

Neymar Favored to Move to PSG on Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

After four seasons with FC Barcelona, playing in the shadow of four-time La Liga top goalscorer Lionel Messi, Neymar looks poised to leave Camp Nou for Paris Saint-Germain during the 2017 summer transfer window, sporting short -125 odds on the betting props.

Since joining Barca in 2013, Neymar has emerged as one of soccer’s top young stars, tallying 105 goals in 186 appearances and leading the club to a pair of La Liga championships and the 2015 UEFA Champions league title. However, the 25-year-old Brazilian has been overshadowed by Messi, who has led La Liga in goalscoring in seven of the past eight years, and recently signed a new contract that will keep him in Barcelona until 2021.

The price tag attached to any transfer of Neymar is a steep one, pegged at a whopping 222 million Euros, more than double the 105 million Euros paid a year ago when Frenchman Paul Pogba transferred from Juventus to Manchester United.

However, PSG management looks to be undeterred by what would be a record-setting transfer fee. The six-time Ligue 1 champions have been mentioned as a potential destination for Neymar in each of the past two offseasons, and are controlled by a well-heeled ownership group with the resources to pay both a massive transfer fee and an annual salary that reportedly could reach 30 million Euros.

PSG Looking to Add a Superstar to Roster

After seeing a run of four straight Ligue 1 championship wins ended this past season with a second-place finish behind upstart AS Monaco, combined with five straight early exits from Champions League action, PSG management remains eager to add a bona fide global superstar to their roster and solidify the club’s already strong position as -300 chalk on the  Ligue 1 championship odds.

While Neymar and PSG look like a solid fit, Barca management has been publicly vocal about its intention to keep the 2015 Champions League top goalscorer in the fold, buoying -115 odds that Neymar returns to Camp Nou for at least one more season.

Uncertainty surrounding Neymar’s future has done little to dampen Barcelona’s odds in the upcoming season.  Barca remains a solid -120 favorite to return to the top of the La Liga table in 2018, edging out archrival and reigning champion Real Madrid, which trails at EVEN odds.

Barca also leads a close three-way race atop the 2018 Champions League odds, leading the way at +450, just ahead of Real and Bayern Munchen, while Paris Saint-Germain trails at a distant +1800.
