Tide Favored on NCAAF Championship Betting Odds

NCAA Championship Betting Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

The Alabama Crimson Tide will be aiming to win their third College Football Playoff National Championship in four years on Monday when they take on the Clemson Tigers in this year’s title game as 6-point favorites on the NCAA championship betting odds.

Alabama once again emerged as the class of the nation in college football this season, marching to a perfect 14-0 straight-up record, which leaves the team undefeated in 16 contests ahead of Monday night’s match-up at Levi’s Stadium.

Pegged as a national championship favorite since the preseason, the Crimson Tide have been a dominant offensive force on the gridiron this season, racking up 47.7 points per game to rank second in the nation, and scoring 50 or more points on eight occasions.

The Tide continued to put up the points while punching their ticket to a fourth straight title game, topping the Oklahoma Sooners by a 45-34 score in last weekend’s Orange Bowl. Alabama has now averaged 45.5 points per game over its past four outings, generating a 3-1 run for the OVER in totals betting. However, the squad has disappointed bettors during that stretch, going 1-3 against the spread on the NCAA football odds.

Alabama has also produced middling results when pegged as a favorite of fewer than 10 points, going 3-2 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in its past five. That run began with a shocking 35-31 loss to Clemson as 6.5-point chalk in the 2017 CFP National Championship Game, making the Tigers one of just two teams to defeat the Crimson Tide in 55 games since September 2015.

Underdog Tigers Look for Repeat of Title Upset

The Tigers will be looking for a repeat of their stunning championship victory after sitting second to Alabama all season long on the national rankings and NCAAF championship odds. Clemson saw its 2017 campaign end in disappointing fashion with a decisive 24-6 loss to the Crimson Tide in last season’s CFP semi-final.

However, the Tigers are the lone squad in the nation that has managed to keep pace with Alabama this season, compiling an unblemished 14-0 SU record, capped by a 30-3 thrashing of the previously undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish in last weekend’s Cotton Bowl.

Clemson has also regularly run up the score during their bid for a perfect season, averaging a fourth-ranked 44.3 points per game overall, and an average of 42 points per game over its past three.

With two of the nation’s highest-scoring teams facing off, it is no surprise that the total is pegged at a lofty 59.0 on the NCAA championship betting lines for Monday’s contest. But it is the UNDER that has regularly paid out of late when the Tigers hit the field, going 4-1 in their past five. In addition, the total has topped 59 in just seven of Clemson’s past 25 outings, and in just two of the Tigers’ previous four meetings with Alabama.

Indeed, point production has been a problem at times for the Tigers when facing Alabama, with Clemson scoring 10 or fewer points on two occasions, but covering twice in four games against the Tide.
