NCAA Bowl Betting in Spotlight on Saturday

The Fresno State Bulldogs will be aiming to win consecutive bowl games for the first time since 2004 when they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday in the Las Vegas Bowl as 4-point favorites on the NCAAF bowl game betting odds.

Fresno State is coming off a 19-16 overtime win over Boise State that earned the squad its first Mountain West Conference title since 2013, but has found victory elusive during bowl season, going 2-7 straight up in nine bowl game appearances ahead of Saturday afternoon’s game at Sam Boyd Stadium.

The Bulldogs emerged as the class of the MWC while marching to an 11-2 SU record overall, and 7-1 SU in conference play, and travel to Las Vegas riding a three-game SU win streak following their win over the Broncos as 1.5-point underdogs.

Fresno State’s offense has been prolific at times this season, scoring 31 or more points on seven occasions. That run includes a 48-3 rout of the UNLV Rebels at Sam Boyd Stadium in early November. However, it has been the UNDER that has regularly prevailed in totals betting when Fresno State hits the gridiron, going 8-1 in the team’s past nine.

The Sun Devils are also looking to end a bowl season losing streak after suffering a 52-31 loss to NC State in last year’s Sun Bowl that leaves them winless in their past two bowl game appearances and 2-6 SU in their past eight.

But Arizona State will be riding high into its first Las Vegas Bowl appearances after locking up bowl eligibility by posting SU wins in four of their past five games to finish the regular season with a 7-5 record. The Sun Devils have also been particularly strong of late when pegged as betting underdogs, covering in each of their past three including outright wins over Utah and USC.

Cure Bowl, New Mexico Bowl on Saturday Slate

Elsewhere on the NCAA bowl betting odds on Saturday, a long-time southern rivalry gets rekindled as the Tulane Green Wave take on the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns as 3.5-point favorites in the Cure Bowl, while the Utah State Aggies battle the North Texas Mean Green as 8.5-point chalk in this year’s New Mexico Bowl.

Like the Sun Devils, the Green Wave needed a late-season surge to clinch bowl eligibility, posting SU wins in four of their final five contests to eke out a 6-6 SU record on the season. However, Tulane has been a betting disappointment, going 3-7 ATS in its past 10, including a 1-4 SU run as betting chalk on the NCAA football odds.

The Cajuns have fared better, going 3-1 SU in their past four, and covering in eight of 10 contests, but have struggled against their cross-state opponent, losing SU in five of seven meetings.

The Aggies are also coming off a loss to Boise State, dropping a 33-24 decision to the Broncos as 2.5-point underdogs on the NCAAF betting odds on Thanksgiving Weekend. Utah State has otherwise been dominant, posting SU wins in their 10 previous outings.

The Mean Green have won two straight, but have rewarded sports bettors with ATS wins on the NCAAF betting odds just once in their past eight contests, and own a shaky 2-7 SU record in nine previous bowl game appearances.
