The Chicago Cubs have played just well enough to hold down the lead in the NL Central standings this season, but they’re still the favorites on the odds to win the 2017 World Series.

Chicago sits as the +400 favorite on the odds to win the World Series, a small improvement from their line of +450 on those MLB futures at the start of the season. Heading into action at Pittsburgh on Tuesday night the Cubs had 11 wins in their first 19 games of the season, which gave them just a small bubble at the top of the tightly-bunched NL Central division standings.

The Cubs were tied with the Boston Red Sox on the 2017 World Series odds to start the season, but it’s the Cleveland Indians that are now their closest competitor on those futures. The Indians, who fell to the Cubs in the World Series last season, have moved up from +900 to +650 as they battle the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox for top spot in the AL Central.

The Red Sox are then at +800 on the World Series odds, tied with the Houston Astros. Boston finds itself trailing the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East standings in the early going, with a key series against the rival New York Yankees on tap early this week. Boston has been strong at home but has struggled on the road so far this year, winning just four of their 10 away games.

The Astros, meanwhile, have jumped up from +1400 on the futures as they’ve rolled out to an early lead in the AL West standings. The Washington Nationals, leaders of the NL East, are a step back at +900 on the World Series odds, while the Los Angeles Dodgers are next at +1200. Los Angeles, though, has struggled to a sub-.500 record through their first 20 games.

New York Teams Trail the Betting Favorites

The New York Mets started the season at +1400 on the 2017 World Series odds, with the New York Yankees at +2500 back then. Now, though, the Mets are sitting at +1600 with the Yankees having moved up right behind them at +1800. The Mets sit fourth in the NL East standings this week, having won just two of their last 10 games heading into action on Tuesday. The Yankees find themselves in AL East contention thanks to an 8-1 home record.

Despite holding down the AL East lead for the entire month of April the Orioles are still behind the top contenders at +2000 on the World Series odds, although that’s up from +3300 on those futures at the start of the campaign. The Colorado Rockies, meanwhile, have shot up from +4000 to +2200 on the futures thanks to winning 14 of their first 20 games this season.

The Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals are then each at +2800, with the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and Toronto Blue Jays all at +3300. Toronto was up at +2200 on those odds to start the season, but struggles in the month of April have caused them to drop on the lines.
