Michigan State assumed the role of giant slayer in the Elite Eight, knocking off top-seeded Duke 68-67 as a 2.5-point underdog, and now takes a nine-game straight-up win streak into Saturday night’s game at US Bank Stadium.

The Spartans have been dominant since overcoming a three-game SU slide in early February that threatened to derail their march towards a share of the Big Ten conference regular-season title for a second straight year.

The team has played exceptional defense during their subsequent 14-1 SU run, surrendering just 61.3 points per game while finishing the regular season ranked 34th in the nation with 65.1 points allowed per game.

And Michigan State has maintained consistent stinginess at this year’s Big Dance, allowing an average of just 61.25 points in its four victories. That has resulted in steady results for  bettors, with the Spartans going 3-1 against the spread in March Madness betting, and improving to 27-11 ATS, which is tops in college basketball this season.

And while the Spartans have averaged an impressive 73.5 points per game at this year’s tournament, the UNDER has gone 4-1 in totals betting over the team’s past five outings. That extends a season-long trend, with the Spartans trailing only the Blue Devils, Oregon, and Washington, with the UNDER prevailing in 23 of their 38 contests to date.

The Spartans finished the season listed at No. 5 on the AP Top 25, four spots ahead of the Red Raiders. The team also enjoyed regular success against nationally ranked opponents this season, going 8-0 SU since opening the campaign with a 92-87 loss to the top-ranked Kansas Jayhawks as 4.5-point underdogs.

Spartans Second on NCAA Tournament Odds

Not surprisingly, the Spartans sit near the top of the national championship odds board, trailing only the South regional champion Virginia Cavaliers as a +185 wager on those NCAA Tournament odds.

But despite making seven trips to the Final Four since 1999, Michigan State has cut down the nets just once during that stretch, in 2000, when they knocked off the Florida Gators 89-76 as 4-point chalk on the national championship odds.

Indeed, the Spartans will be looking to change their current Final Four odds narrative when they tip off against Texas Tech. Michigan State has fallen to SU and ATS defeat in each of its past three Final Four outings, capped by a  blowout 81-61 loss to Duke as a 5.5-point underdog on the March Madness lines in its most recent appearance four years ago.

Overall, the Spartans are just 1-5 SU and ATS on Final Four weekend since their last tournament victory, with their last win coming as a No. 2 seed when they toppled No. 1 Connecticut 82-73 as 4.5-point favorites 10 years ago.

However, should they advance to a national championship clash with the tournament favorite Cavaliers, the Spartans will have history on their side. MSU is unbeaten SU and ATS in three dates with Virginia, including March Madness victories over the Cavaliers in 2014 and 2015.
