Mets Host Yankees on Wednesday MLB Odds Slate

Bet on the New York Yankees and Mets at Bovada

The New York Mets will be looking to win three games in a row for the first time since late May when they wrap up a two-game series with the crosstown rival New York Yankees on Wednesday as home underdogs on the MLB betting odds.

The Mets overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock off the visiting Yankees by a 4-2 score as a +125 home underdog on the MLB odds on Tuesday, leaving the club positioned to claim its first series win since Memorial Day weekend with a victory in Wednesday night’s matchup at Citi Field.

The Mets’ recent modest success couldn’t have come at a better time after losing seven straight last week. Plagued by locker room tensions that were publicly exposed during an incident involving Mets manager Mickey Callaway, pitcher Jason Vargas, and a New York-area reporter, New York surrendered 6.71 runs per game during the club’s seven-game skid, which now leaves the team buried 11 games back of the division-leading Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings.

Winners of 77 games last season, the Mets looked toward this year’s campaign listed as a +330 early bet to win the NL East for the first time since 2015. However, wins have become rare for the club, which racked up a dismal 10-18 record during the month of June, and now lags at a lengthy +7500 to win the division in MLB baseball betting.

However, the Mets have provided reasons for fans to remain optimistic. With Tuesday’s victory, the club has now gone 16-8 in its past 24 outings on home turf, and sits second to the Los Angeles Dodgers among NL squads with just 16 total home losses this season.

The Mets also turned in their best defensive performance since the start of their recent slide with Tuesday’s victory, with the Yankees’ two runs marking the lowest run total surrendered by the NL New Yorkers since their 10-2 road victory over the Chicago Cubs, back on June 22.

New York hopes to continue their stingy ways when they send Vargas to the mound for Wednesday’s contest. The lefthander has regularly turned in steady results for the Mets, giving up more than two earned runs on just two occasions over his past 11 starts, and earning the win in the Mets’ 10-4 victory at Yankee Stadium on June 11 while listed as +183 underdogs on the MLB odds.

Yankees Saw Winning Streak Come to an End

For the Yankees, Tuesday’s defeat as -135 road chalk put the brakes on a six-game win streak, and trimmed their lead atop the AL East standings to just 5.5 games over the second-place Tampa Bay Rays. However, the Yankees remain the class of the AL. Overall, the club has posted wins in 13 of its past 15 outings while averaging 7.8 runs per game, and continues to sit second to the Dodgers with strong +320 odds to win the World Series.

And despite the loss in Tuesday’s series opener, the Yankees have enjoyed regular success when facing the Mets on the road during the regular season, winning nine of 13 meetings since the start of the 2014 MLB season, and will hit the field on Wednesday as favorites in MLB betting.

Domingo German is expected to get the start in Wednesday night’s contest. The 26-year-old righthander struggled before going on the IL on June 8 with a hip injury, surrendering 14 total earned runs in 14.2 innings of work over his past three outings.

However, German was spectacular at times in the early going of the season, giving up more than three earned runs just once over his first 10 starts of the season. German also gave up just three earned runs while striking out nine the last time he faced the Mets in June of last year, but failed to get the decision in a 4-3 win.
