McDavid Heavy Favorite on NHL MVP Odds

NHL Playoff Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

Connor McDavid continued his ascension to the top of the NHL’s elite ranks last season, racking up 108 points to lead the league in scoring for a second straight year. And McDavid has emerged as a strong favorite to claim Hart Trophy honors this season, set as a +333 wager on the odds to win NHL MVP award in the upcoming campaign.

The 21-year-old has not disappointed since being selected first overall amid considerable fanfare at the 2015 NHL Draft. The 2014-2015 CHL Player of the Year had an immediate impact in his NHL debut, racking up 12 points over his first 13 games before suffering a collarbone injury that would sideline him for three months.

McDavid would eventually return to action, and finish his rookie campaign with an impressive 48 points in 45 games. However, he brought his game to the next level in his second season, scoring 30 goals and 70 assists to claim his first scoring title, leading the Oilers back to the playoffs for the first time in a decade, and earning his first career Hart Trophy as league MVP.

An impressive group of NHL stars trail McDavid on the 2018-19 NHL MVP betting odds, with Sidney Crosby set at +650, while Alexander Ovechkin joins Toronto Maple Leafs teammates John Tavares and Auston Matthews at +1000 odds.

Crosby demonstrated consistent excellence last season, tallying 89 points while playing 82 games for the first time in his NHL career. The 30-year-old superstar was unable to lead Pittsburgh to a third straight Stanley Cup victory, though, with the Penguins falling to Washington in six games in a second-round playoff matchup. However the Penguins remain among the favorites on the Stanley Cup odds, closely trailing the Capitals at +1200.

Tavares rocked the hockey world by leaving the New York Islanders this summer to sign with the Maple Leafs. The 27-year-old former first-overall pick racked up 84 points last season, marking the second-highest point total of his career. Tavares will combine with Matthews to form one of the NHL’s top one-two punches up the middle, with Toronto alongside Tampa Bay at the top of the Stanley Cup odds as +750 co-favorites.

Matthews was limited by injury to just 62 games during his second NHL season, but still managed to amass 63 points.

Hall, Scheifele Follow Along on NHL MVP Odds

Reigning Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall leads a group of four players deadlocked at +1500. The New Jersey Devils sniper is joined by Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele, Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov, and Colorado’s Nathan McKinnon.

Hall enjoyed a breakthrough in his second season with the Devils since being dealt by the Edmonton Oilers, scoring a career-high 39 goals and adding 54 assists to lead New Jersey to their first playoff appearance since 2012. However, the Devils lag on the NHL futures as the opening of training camps approach, stalled in the middle of the pack at +4000.

Further down the NHL MVP odds, Evgeni Malkin is knotted with Anze Kopitar at +1800, followed by Patrick Kane at +2000, while Steven Stamkos joins Claude Giroux, Brad Marchand, and Vladimir Tarasenko at +2500.
