Mayweather vs. McGregor Betting Recap

Mayweather vs McGregor Betting Recap - Bovada Sportsbook

Floyd Mayweather produced a TKO of Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their megafight late Saturday night to pay off on a betting line that had shrunk considerably since it opened.

Last November, Mayweather was pegged as a massive -2250 betting favorite in his bout with McGregor, who had sat as a +950 underdog. From there, however, the line began to shift in favor of the MMA fighter, who had moved to a +750 underdog by the end of January. Mayweather, sporting a record of 49-0 at the time, was listed as a reduced favorite of +1400.

And that trend continued throughout the year, with Mayweather down to -850 on the betting lines by the end of February, at -750 two months later, and down to -550 by the end of June. From there the odds stabilized through the early summer, with Mayweather still at -550 and McGregor at +375 at the start of August. As the hype geared up, however, those lines shifted again, with Mayweather at -450 and McGregor at +325 on the fight lines as of last Thursday.

Saturday morning Mayweather sat at -400 with McGregor at +300, with those lines moving to -375 and +285 by mid-morning, and moving again to -350 and +265 just prior to the big fight.

So those that waited to wager on Mayweather until the last minute got him at his best price. The fight didn’t manage to get underway until about midnight ET on Saturday, and McGregor actually seemed to hold the edge over the first few rounds. From there, though, Mayweather’s experience took over, and he outworked a fatigued McGregor for a TKO win in the 10th round.

Prop Results, Exotic Results for the Fight

That Mayweather TKO result had been the favorite at -135 on the ‘method of victory’ prop for Saturday night, in a group with KO and DQ. Mayweather by decision had been set at +250. Also on the props, Mayweather in the 10th round had been listed at +2200 odds, while the fight going OVER 9.5 rounds was listed at +135 odds (with the UNDER on that prop at -190).

And on the exotics for the fight, neither Justin Bieber nor Nate Diaz walked out with Mayweather on Saturday night, although Mayweather did have the longer walkout and more people with him on the night. Mayweather also wore a ‘The Money Team’ hat on his trip to the ring, while neither fighter managed to lose their mouthpiece at any point on Saturday night.
