Vikings Favorites on Kirk Cousins Free Agency Odds

Vikings Favorites on Kirk Cousins Free Agency Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

The Minnesota Vikings have emerged as the favorites to have free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins on their roster for the start of the 2018 NFL season, perched at a short -205 on the Kirk Cousins free agency odds.

Cousins entered free agency on Tuesday afternoon after the Washington Redskins declined to slap the 29-year-old pivot with a franchise tag for a third straight year. Cousins led the Redskins to a disappointing 7-9 record and out of playoff contention in 2017, and was made expendable after Washington dealt to acquire Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs in late January.

Despite leading the Redskins to the postseason in just one of three seasons as the squad’s undisputed starter, Cousins emerged as an elite quarterback during his time in the nation’s capital, throwing an average of 27 touchdown passes and 4,392 passing yards per season while not missing a start since the beginning of the 2015 campaign.

That consistency would be particularly appealing to the Vikings. Minnesota was forced to turn to journeyman Case Keenum last season after losing both Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford to serious injuries.

Keenum enjoyed a career year in 2017, leading the Vikings to 13 victories and their second NFC North title in three years, but was at the helm for the squad’s 38-7 blowout loss to Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game.

The Vikings remain a solid +1500 wager on the Super Bowl LIII odds, but with Keenum, Bridgewater, and Bradford all entering free agency during the offseason, Minnesota is now thought to be looking for a healthier, longer-term option under center.

Jets, Broncos Trail on Kirk Cousins 2018 Odds

Further down the odds on where Cousins will sign, the New York Jets sit second at +300, ahead of the Denver Broncos, who are pegged at +350 on the Kirk Cousins prop bet.

The Jets have parted ways with starter Josh McCown following a second straight 5-11 season, and have reportedly shown interest in targeting Oklahoma Sooners pivot Baker Mayfield in this year’s NFL Draft. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner´s chances to be drafted among the first 5 selections stand at +150 on the 2018 NFL Draft odds. This could work out for the Jets, who´ll have the sixth overall selection.

The Broncos have struggled to find a long-term solution at quarterback since the retirement of Peyton Manning following Denver’s victory in Super Bowl 50. Quarterbacking duties have been largely split between Trevor Siemian and Brock Osweiler over the past two seasons, with Siemian making 24 total starts during that stretch.

However, neither passer has been able to lift Denver into playoff contention since Manning’s departure. Siemian particularly struggled in 2017, tossing just 12 touchdown passes against 14 interceptions, leading the Broncos to a dismal 5-11 record. Osweiler turned in uninspired performances in five appearances last season, while third-year passer Paxton Lynch failed to seize the starter’s job while leading the squad to a pair of late-season defeats.

The Arizona Cardinals round out the Kirk Cousins 2018 odds as distant +1500 longshots. With an 8-8 record, the Cardinals missed the postseason for a second straight year, and found themselves thrown into a quarterback search following starter Carson Palmer’s retirement from the NFL.
