Panthers Favorites Hosting Eagles on TNF - Bovada Sportsbook

A pair of 4-1 teams will meet on Thursday Night Football this week as the Carolina Panthers play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in the primetime matchup.

The Panthers are pegged as 3-point favorites at home for Thursday night on the betting lines, with the Eagles a +145 underdog on the moneyline and the OVER/UNDER at 46.5 points. Philadelphia is 3-2 against the spread on the season, with Carolina slightly better at 3-1-1.

After stumbling at home in an embarrassing 34-13 loss to the Saints, the Panthers have won back-to-back road games at New England and at Detroit. Meanwhile, the Eagles – the winners of three straight games – just dismantled the Arizona Cardinals as Carson Wentz passed for over 300 yards and four touchdowns in the 34-7 blowout win.

For Carolina, the difference the past two weeks begins and ends with quarterback Cam Newton.

After averaging 188 pass yards with a completion percentage south of 65 percent, two touchdowns and four interceptions through the first three games of the season, Newton has flipped the script and averaged 335 passing yards per game with six touchdowns, one interception, and a 76% completion percentage.

Injury Updates for Thursday Night Game

All signs point to Panthers receiver Devin Funchess playing against the Eagles. After sitting out practice on Monday and Tuesday with a knee injury, he returned for the Wednesday walkthrough. Funchess has caught 14 passes for 123 yards and three scores the past two weeks and will face the 29th-ranked pass defense, which allows 283 yards per game.

On the Eagles’ injury front, running back Wendall Smallwood is questionable, but trending the wrong way after missing practice Tuesday, and offensive tackle Lane Johnson is out for the game with a concussion.

On the trends for Thursday night, Carolina is 6-4 straight up and 4-4-2 ATS in its last 10 games as the home favorite. However, they are 3-1 ATS as home favorites over their past four such games. Philadelphia is 4-6 SU and 5-5 ATS (1-1 in 2017) in its last 10 as a road underdog but has failed to cover six of its last seven.
