The Duke Blue Devils will be looking to avoid suffering losses in back-to-back home games for the first time in three years when they hit the hardwood on Saturday against the undefeated Virginia Cavaliers.

Duke is coming off a stunning 95-91 loss to unranked Syracuse on Monday, dumping its overall straight-up record to 14-2 ahead of Saturday’s game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The loss to the Orange as heavy 17-point favorites on the NCAAB betting lines marks the Blue Devils’ first home defeat by an unranked opponent since dropping an 84-82 decision to North Carolina State in January 2017, and threatens to bounce the team from its spot atop the AP Top 25 rankings, which they have held since Week 7.

The Blue Devils remain a massively reliable bet when playing on home court, winning outright in 39 of 41, and have avoided consecutive against the spread losses during an impressive 11-3 ATS run in NCAAB betting that dates back to last January.

Duke has also enjoyed regular success when battling the conference rival Cavaliers, earning the SU win in 12 of 15 meetings. However, it was Virginia that came away with a narrow 65-63 victory as a 3.5-point underdog when these two teams last met in Durham, back in January of last year.

The Blue Devils have also been a shaky bet on the NCAA basketball odds when facing Virginia, covering just three times in 11 overall meetings, and going winless ATS in six straight home matchups, all as betting favorites. Despite last weekend’s setback, Duke continues to dominate at the top of the college basketball national championship odds, where they remain heavy +170 favorites.

Cavaliers Coming off Payout on NCAAB Betting Odds

The Cavaliers make the journey to North Carolina riding high after handing the cross-state rival Virginia Tech Hokies a crushing 81-59 defeat, and paying out as 7.5-point home favorites on the NCAAB betting odds in their ninth straight outright win over a ranked opponent.

With the victory, Virginia improved its unblemished overall season record to 16-0 including a 4-0 mark in conference play, and is now unbeaten SU in 24 straight regular season contests since last February. The Cavaliers have also regularly romped to victory while rewarding   bettors by covering in seven straight contests, claiming victory by an average margin of 23 points in each of those outings.

A stingy defense has been crucial to Virginia’s success. The Cavaliers are tops in the nation with just 51.7 points allowed per game, and have held opponents to fewer than 50 points in seven of their 16 contests this season.

However, that has not translated into steady results in totals betting, with the UNDER going 7-9 on the season. The Cavaliers’ defense will also be put to the test against a vaunted Duke attack that ranks third in the nation with 90.3 points per game. Virginia’s sparkling record leaves the squad poised to climb up the Top 25 rankings after being stalled at No. 4 for most of the season. However, a hot start has failed to give the Cavaliers a boost on the college basketball national championship odds, where they continue to lag at +1200 after opening the campaign at +1800.
