Donald Trump Impeachment Odds Back in Spotlight

Donald Trump Impeachment Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

Donald Trump has found himself in plenty of hot water lately. The embattled US president has been under fire since a summit meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin earlier this month that concluded with a press conference at which Trump suggested he believed Putin’s denials of Russian interference in US elections in 2016.

The comments left the president’s allies within the Republican Party scratching their heads, while his political enemies branded his words as “treasonous”, fueling a jump in the odds on Donald Trump being impeached by the US of House of Representatives during his first term to a short -180.

Trump has been dogged by controversy ever since his stunning victory in the 2016 US presidential election. The 72-year-old New Yorker ran one of the most divisive presidential election campaigns in recent memory, attacking the character of his primary adversary, Hillary Clinton, and widening an already growing divide in the United States with inflammatory commentary on immigration and allegations of sexual misconduct.

The controversies failed to dent an otherwise well organized campaign, with Trump ascending to the White House with an impressive 304 electoral college votes, defying pollsters that gave him little or no chance of victory. He currently sits as a long +200 wager to resign the presidency during his first term on the Donald Trump props.

However, Trump continues to battle crises on multiple fronts. The president found himself in the eye of a new storm last week, when secret recordings made by his former lawyer Michael Cohen revealed pre-election discussions of plans to buy the rights to the story of former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claimed to have an affair with Trump back in 2006.

The president has also been heavily criticized for his widening of trade wars with China, the European Union, Canada, and Mexico, and recently threatened to allow a government shutdown to occur if Democrats in Congress failed to back his plans for revamped immigration legislation, including moving forward with the construction of his highly controversial border wall.

Mueller Investigation Stirs Up More Trump Trouble

In addition, the ongoing investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 US elections remains a thorn in the side of the White House. Over 30 individuals and corporations have faced criminal charges since the investigation was launched last year, including 12 Russian nationals earlier this month.

While the Special Counsel has yet to find any evidence of wrongdoing by the president, Republicans remain nervous as the clock ticks down to US midterm elections in November.

Republicans currently control the US Congress, but are pegged as +120 underdogs to maintain control of the House of Representatives when Americans go to the polls in November, while the Democrats sit as narrow -125 favorites.

With just 33 US Senate seats up for grabs on November 6, Republicans remain heavy -300 favorites to maintain control of the upper chamber, and their success is likely critical to the survival of Trump’s first term as president.

While the US House of Representatives holds the exclusive power to impeach a president, he must subsequently be tried and convicted by the US Senate, an event which is pegged as a long +450 bet on the Donald Trump impeachment odds.
