Djokovic Emerges as Favorite on US Open Odds

US Open Betting Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

Novak Djokovic will be gunning for his second Grand Slam tournament victory of the year when he takes the court next week as a +250 favorite on the odds to win 2018 US Open.

Djokovic has shown steady improvement since returning to action after missing a considerable portion of last season due to an elbow injury that had reportedly plagued him for the previous 18 months. The former top-ranked star failed to advance beyond Round of 16 action in his first six tour appearances of 2018, including the Australian Open, but has tallied a pair of tournament victories since, including a fourth career win at Wimbledon as a +650 bet.

Currently at No. 6 on the ATP world rankings, Djokovic continued his strong play last week in Cincinnati, knocking off second-ranked Roger Federer in straight sets to pick up the win as a +120 underdog on the Western & Southern Open men’s final odds. Now he will have his sights set on claiming a 14th career Grand Slam victory when the US Open gets underway next week at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Djokovic faces stiff competition from familiar foes at this year’s tournament, including Rafael Nadal, who looks to defend his US Open crown as a strong +350 bet on the US Open odds. Federer closely trails at +400, while Alexander Zverev sits at +800.

Nadal has strengthened his position as the No. 1 player on the ATP rankings with five tour victories this season, capped by his recent win at the Rogers Cup in Toronto where he marched to victory while losing just one set. The 32-year-old also continued his unprecedented dominance at the French Open, picking up his 11th career victory to pay out on short -226 odds, but saw an impressive performance as a +500 wager at Wimbledon come to a halt with a loss to Djokovic in a marathon semi-final matchup.

Federer Looks for Success at US Open Next Week

Federer has continued to defy Father Time this year. The 37-year-old has made six tournament final appearances, earning the win on three occasions, including his sixth career victory at the Australian Open as a +185 favorite. However, the Swiss star has enjoyed limited success at the US Open in recent years, reaching the final just twice in the eight appearances since claiming his fifth career win at Flushing Meadows, back in 2008.

It has been a year of mixed results for Zverev. The 21-year-old German phenom has earned three wins on the tour in 2018, including a dominant victory at the Citi Open in Washington last month, but followed up with lacklustre performances in Toronto and Cincinnati, bowing out in the quarter-finals and Round of 32, respectively. Zverev has also failed to advance beyond the second round in two previous appearances at the US Open.

Further down the ATP US Open betting odds, 2012 US Open champion Andy Murray joins 2009 winner Juan Martin del Potro at +1200, ahead of Martin Cilic at +1600. Australia’s Nick Kyrgios follows at +2000, while a trio of players sit deadlocked at +2500 including Canada’s Milos Raonic, 2016 US Open winner Stan Wawrinka, and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
