Cubs Clear Chalk on Odds to Win National League Pennant - Bovada Sportsbook

Having hit the century mark in the win column with a week still left in baseball’s regular season, the Chicago Cubs are the betting favorites on the odds to win the 2016 NL Pennant.

Chicago has spent all season atop the baseball futures board as they’ve run away with the NL Central title, leaving the rival St. Louis Cardinals far behind them in that division race as they’ve coasted to the best record in the league in 2016. With the start of the baseball playoffs now just a week away the Cubs are listed as clear +120 favorites on the NL Pennant odds.

The Cubs, with Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo anchoring a strong lineup that features nine players with at least 10 home runs on the season, will be using the final week of the regular season to rest starters as needed and get their rotation lined up for the beginning of the NLDS next week. Four Chicago pitchers have earned at least 15 wins on the season, including Jon Lester who sits at 19-4 with a tiny 2.28 ERA to headline the staff heading into the playoffs.

Washington Nationals Coming in Second

The Washington Nationals are second at +250 on the updated NL Pennant odds, and they’re the NL East champions this season – having put away the New York Mets in the division race.  That’s despite a down year by star outfielder Bryce Harper, who headed into action on Tuesday with 24 home runs and a .244 batting average on the season. Harper blasted 42 home runs and hit .330 for the Nationals last season en route to being named the NL’s MVP.

It’s then the Los Angeles Dodgers, the other National League divison winner, at +375 on the NL Pennant odds. A hot stretch in the middle of September wrapped up the NL West title for the Dodgers and left the rival San Francisco Giants in the Wild Card hunt. Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw returned from a two-month absence at the start of September and is back to his classic form, having allowed just a single unearned run over his last three outings.

With the division title out of reach the Giants are engaged in a three-way battle for the two National League Wild Card positions with the Mets and the Cardinals. The Giants and Mets hold the slight edge at +1200 apiece on the odds to win the NL Pennant this season, with the Cardinals a step back at +1600. That tight race is not expected to be over until the weekend.
