Cleveland Browns NFL Props Favor Return to Respectability

Cleveland Browns NFL Betting Props at Bovada

The Cleveland Browns hit rock bottom last season, recording the first winless season in the NFL since the Detroit Lions accomplished the dubious feat back in 2008. But after a busy offseason that featured a number of personnel changes, the Browns look poised to return to respectability. The team sports solid -155 odds of winning OVER 5.5 games during the 2018 NFL campaign on the Cleveland Browns NFL season prop bets.

Browns fans have endured considerable heartache since the squad made a return to the NFL in 1999 following three years of inactivity. Cleveland has earned a playoff berth on just one occasion since then. However, the past three seasons have been particularly miserable, with the team posting just four total wins while handing the ball to 10 different quarterbacks over that stretch.

The Browns, though, hope to have finally landed their quarterback of the future in Baker Mayfield, who they selected first overall at this year’s NFL Draft. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner closed out his collegiate career at Oklahoma in impressive fashion last year, finishing second in the nation in passing yards and touchdown passes.

Mayfield has impressed while getting the majority of the snaps during the Browns’ first three preseason games, including a two-touchdown performance in a 20-10 win over the New York Giants. Mayfield currently sits second as a +600 bet on the odds to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Mayfield Competing for Browns Starting QB Position

The 23-year-old remains in fierce competition for the starter’s job with Tyrod Taylor, who joined the Browns in an offseason trade with Buffalo. Taylor has enjoyed working with a revamped Browns receiving corps that features Jarvis Landry and Josh Gordon.

The Browns gave up a pair of late picks to land wide receiver Landry from Miami. The squad received an additional lift following the recent announcement that Josh Gordon has been cleared to join the Browns active roster after being limited to just 10 total games over the past four seasons while serving suspensions for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

Gordon piled up 335 yards in just five appearances last year, and a career-high 1,646 yards in 14 appearances in 2013, but owns +3500 odds of recording the most receiving yards during the 2018 campaign. Landry has not missed a game in four NFL seasons, and caught a career-high nine touchdown passes while amassing 987 receiving yards with the Dolphins last season. Landry trails on the NFL receiving yards prop at +10000.

The Browns have also improved on defense, signing cornerback EJ Gaines, and landing cornerback Denzel Ward with the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft. Ward has not looked out of place in three August appearances, racking up six total solo tackles. Ward joins Mayfield as a leader on the Cleveland Browns NFL props, pegged at +1400 on the odds to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Despite their improvements on paper, the Browns have a long way to go to return to playoff contention. In addition to a Cleveland Browns regular season win total that predicts an 11th straight losing season, the squad is pegged as a distant +1000 bet to win the AFC North title, while the Cleveland Browns odds to make playoffs trail at a distant +400.
