Chiefs Favored on Thursday Night NFL Betting Odds

The Kansas City Chiefs can clinch their third straight AFC West title with a win on Thursday when they battle the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers as 3.5-point home favorites on the Week 15 NFL betting odds.

Kansas City has emerged as one of the elite squads in the NFL this season, leading the AFC with an 11-2 straight-up record, but sits just one game up on Los Angeles in the divisional standings going into Thursday night’s game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs guaranteed themselves a playoff berth with last weekend’s 27-24 overtime win over Baltimore as 6.5-point home chalk, and can lock up a first-round bye with an outright win over Los Angeles. The team has also regularly paid out as home favorites on Thursday Night Football, going 4-1 SU and ATS in their past five in TNF betting.

However, Kansas City has emerged as a disappointing bet of late, going 1-4-1 against the spread in its past six, including an 0-3 ATS mark in football betting over its past three home dates. The squad also lags on the Super Bowl odds, trailing the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams as a +480 bet.

But Kansas City cannot be underestimated. The Chiefs’ explosive offense leads the NFL with 36.2 points per game, and is led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has emerged as a  -140 favorite to earn NFL MVP honors.

The 23-year-old leads the NFL with 4,300 passing yards and 43 touchdown passes, leaving him with an outside chance of taking a run at the NFL record of 55 scoring passes in a season, held by Peyton Manning.

Selected 10th overall by Kansas City in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes made his debut as an NFL starter a memorable one by throwing for four touchdowns in the Chiefs’ 38-28 upset win over the Chargers as 3-point road underdogs to extend the Chiefs’ win streak over Los Angeles to nine games.

Chargers Challenging in AFC West Division Race

However, the Chiefs could have their hands full against a Chargers squad that arrives in Kansas City after posting SU wins in nine of 10 outings to make it a race in the AFC West standings.

The Chargers are coming off a 26-21 victory over Cincinnati as a 16.5-point home chalk on the NFL odds, and have posted outright wins in four road contests during their torrid 10-game run. The squad’s strong play has finally given them a lift in Super Bowl betting, where they now sit as a +1000 wager, well ahead of the +3300 odds they sported on opening day.

And while the Chiefs have regularly run up the score this season, the Chargers have regularly shut down opposing offenses, limiting opponents to 19 or fewer points on six occasions during their current 9-1 SU run. That has lead to a steady 4-2 run for the OVER in totals betting, and has contributed to the team’s success at the sportsbooks, with a 6-3 ATS mark over their past nine.

The Chargers have also won outright in three of four as road underdogs this season, but are just 4-17 SU in 21 visits to Kansas City as underdogs since 1990.
