Dodgers Rise, Astros Steady on 2018 World Series Odds

2018 World Series Odds at Bovada

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a bold move to bolster their lineup last week by acquiring Manny Machado in a blockbuster trade with the Baltimore Orioles. The Dodgers’ decision to add the three-time 30-home run hitter comes amid a tight three-way race for first place in the NL West, but has vaulted Los Angeles among the favorites on the 2018 World Series odds, where they now join the New York Yankees at +500.

The Dodgers have been a fixture in baseball’s postseason in recent years, claiming the NL West pennant in seven of the past 10 years, including a dominant 104-win performance last season. However, they have fallen short of a World Series victory in 11 playoff appearances since winning their last title in 1988, including a heartbreaking loss to Houston in Game 7 of last year’s Fall Classic.

The club also struggled early on this season, recording six losing streaks lasting three or more games by mid-May, and had tumbled as far as +1500 on the MLB World Series odds after opening as a short +500 bet. But they have caught fire this month, going 12-5 through their first 17 outings to seize the lead in the divisional standings.

Sporting a comfortable lead atop the AL West standings despite some shaky play over the past month, the Astros continue to lead the way as favorites to become the first team to win consecutive World Series championships in two decades, sporting strong +425 odds on the MLB futures.

Houston has been getting it done on both sides of the ball, trailing only Boston in runs scored, while leading the majors with a stingy defense that has surrendered just 3.21 runs per game. However, the Astros are reportedly seeking bullpen help as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, with rumors linking the club to a deal to acquire Orioles closer Zach Britton.

Red Sox Second on 2018 World Series Odds

The Red Sox are also expected to make moves to bolster their bullpen. Boston has enjoyed an historic season that puts the club on pace to post its best regular-season record in over 70 years, but continues to trail Houston at +475 on the MLB World Series odds.

This past weekend, the Red Sox became the first team in the majors to reach the 70-win mark this season, and are currently flirting with a .700 record. However, postseason success has eluded Boston in the past two years, with the club winning just one total game in consecutive ALDS losses to Cleveland and Houston.

While the Red Sox soar, the Yankees have stumbled after a hot start. New York briefly moved to the top of the MLB betting lines to win the World Series during a sensational 20-3 run starting in late April, but have struggled to maintain a .500 record in the month of July, while surrendering five or more runs on nine occasions.

Further down the World Series betting odds, the Chicago Cubs have gained ground rising to +650, while the Indians are joined at +1400 by the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, who remain engaged in a surprising battle for first place in the NL East standings, while the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies continue to chase the Dodgers while sporting +2500 and +4000 odds, respectively.

*Odds as of July 24, 2018
