McIlroy Atop 2018 Players Championship Odds

McIlroy Atop 2018 Players Championship Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

Rory McIlroy will be gunning for his second tournament win of the season when he tees off this weekend as a +1600 co-favorite on the 2018 Players Championship odds.

The three-time major tournament winner got 2018 off to a shaky start, finishing no better than 20th and missing the cut twice in his first four outings before pulling away from the field with a final-round 64 to claim victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational as a +1400 wager.

McIlroy has turned in uneven results in three outings since then, but will be looking to build on a solid fifth-place finish at the Masters as a +1000 co-favorite.

Three other golfers join McIlroy atop the odds to win The Players Championship, which gets underway on Thursday on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. Jason Day, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth all sport +1600 odds, and are followed by Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler, who sit knotted at +2000.

Day looks to claim his second The Players Championship win in three years after picking up the victory at last weekend’s Wells Fargo Championship that paid out on +2000 odds. Last week’s victory was Day’s second of the year, and lifted him into second in the FedExCup standings.

Thomas has struggled since following up his win at the Honda Championship as a +1000 wager with a second-place finish at the WGC-Mexico Championship. The reigning PGA Player of the Year stumbled to a share of 17th place at the Masters before missing the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and is coming off a 21st-place finish at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Spieth Seeks First Players Championship Win

Vocal in his support for making the The Players Championship golf’s fifth major tournament, Spieth has never finished better than fourth at the event, and missed the cut in his last outing at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. However, the young Texan finished third in his two previous events, including the Masters, where he shot a spectacular final-round 64.

Johnson aims to maintain his perch atop the world golf rankings, but has battled inconsistency this season and was forced to settle for a share of 16th place in his last outing at the RBC Heritage in mid-April.

The American claimed victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions while sporting +750 odds in mid-January, added second-place finishes at the WGC-HSBC Champions and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am, but has never finished better than 12th in The Players Championship.

Fowler has also turned in mixed results this season. The 29-year-old American posted a career-best second-place finish at Augusta as a lengthy +2200 wager. However that marked his only finish in the Top 10 since January, missing the cut twice and trailing in 21st last weekend at the Wells Fargo.

Further down The Players Championship betting lines, Jon Rahm sits alone at +2200, followed by Henrik Stenson at +2500, and Justin Rose at +3000.

A quartet of major tournament winners are knotted at +3500, including Sergio Garcia, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and this year’s green jacket winner at Augusta, Patrick Reed, while last year’s The Players Championship winner Si Woo Kim lags at +7500 odds.
