NFL Week 2 Betting Preview for Top Matchups

NFL Week 2 Betting Odds at Bovada Sportsbook

Aaron Rodgers looked in vintage form last weekend as he led the Green Bay Packers to a  24-23 comeback victory over the Chicago Bears. Rodgers had briefly left the game in the first half after taking a scary hit, but returned in time to lead Green Bay to a fourth-quarter comeback for the 13th time in his career.

However, after being held out of practice on Wednesday with lingering pain in his knee, the status of Rodgers remains uncertain for Green Bay’s Week 2 clash with the rival Minnesota Vikings. As a result, the posting of NFL odds for Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Lambeau Field has been delayed.

The value of Rodgers to the Packers cannot be overstated. After the two-time NFL MVP was sidelined with a collarbone injury last October, the Packers went into an immediate tailspin, posting straight-up losses in five of eight contests to fall out of playoff contention for the first time since 2008.

With Rodgers back at full health, Green Bay opened the season at +1100 on the Super Bowl odds, climbing to +1000 following Sunday’s win over the Bears. But even with Rodgers in the lineup, the Packers face a tough test in Sunday’s date with the Vikings.

Minnesota is coming off a 13-3 campaign in 2017 that earned the squad its second NFC North title in three years. The Vikings looked poised for another strong campaign in a decisive 24-16 win over San Francisco as 6-point home chalk in Week 1, and were subsequently rewarded with a boost on the Super Bowl odds, where they trail only New England at +800.

The Vikings are also 4-1 straight up in their past five meetings with Green Bay, including a 16-0 win as 8.5-point chalk at Lambeau last December. However, the Vikings remain a dismal 2-8 SU in 10 previous visits to Green Bay with Rodgers at the helm.

Patriots, Steelers Favorites on the NFL Odds

In other NFL Week 2 betting action, the Patriots travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars as narrow 1.5-point favorites in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game, while the Pittsburgh Steelers look to rebound from a disappointing 21-21 draw in Cleveland as they host the Kansas City Chiefs as 4-point favorites.

The Patriots hit the road for the first time this season after getting past the Houston Texans in a 27-20 win as 6.5-point chalk last weekend. Despite concerns about a depleted receiving corps, New England remains perched as a massive -1300 favorite to once again win the AFC East, and a +600 Super Bowl betting favorite.

New England has tallied eight straight SU wins over Jacksonville, but must contend with a Jaguars squad that has surrendered just 11.33 points per game during a six-game SU win streak on home turf.

The Steelers saw a six-game SU win streak against the Browns end in shocking fashion last week, but have enjoyed steady success against the Chiefs, posting SU wins in five home dates since 1988.

However, the Chiefs travel to Pittsburgh on a high following a 38-28 upset of the Los Angeles Chargers as 3-point road chalk, which has lifted them to +140 favorites to repeat as AFC West divisional champions.
