Barkley Leads 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

2018 NFL Rookie of the Year Odds - Bovado

After being selected second overall by the New York Giants in last week’s 2018 NFL Draft, running back Saquon Barkley has emerged as a strong +150 favorite on the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds.

A native of the Bronx, Barkley will begin his NFL career in the Big Apple after racking up 1,728 total yards and 23 total touchdowns in his third and final campaign with Penn State, capped by a 175-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Nittany Lions’ 35-28 victory over the Washington Huskies in the 2017 Fiesta Bowl.

The arrival of Barkley addresses a major weakness for the Giants, whose 3-13 record in 2017 marks their worst season since 1974. New York also finished the 2017 NFL campaign ranked 26th in team rushing after compiling just 96.8 ground yards per game and tallying a meager six total rushing scores.

Expectations are high that Barkley will have an immediate impact in New York. The 21-year-old sports strong -170 odds of amassing OVER 1,000 rushing yards during the 2018 NFL season, and is also pegged as a -120 bet to run for OVER eight touchdowns.

However, the addition of Barkley has done little to lift the Giants on the Super Bowl LIII odds, where they continue to lag at a distant +7500.

Mayfield, Allen Follow on the NFL OROY Betting Odds

Barkley is closely trailed on the odds for NFL’s offensive rookie of the year by Baker Mayfield, who sits at +285. The pivot was rewarded for a standout performance in his final season in college football by winning the 2017 Heisman Trophy, and was subsequently taken first overall in the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.

Mayfield finished second in the nation with 4,340 passing yards and 41 touchdowns while leading the Oklahoma Sooners to a College Football Playoff berth. However, the 23-year-old faces a daunting task with the Browns, who finished 0-16 last season and have produced just one victory in 35 regular-season contests since December 2015.

Further down the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year betting odds, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills is listed at +900, just ahead of Arizona’s Josh Rosen at +1000.

Hampered by injury last season, Allen was limited to just 1,812 yards and 16 touchdown passes for the Wyoming Cowboys, and subsequently fell to No. 7 at the NFL Draft. It was a similar story for Rosen, who went to the Cardinals the No. 10 pick after throwing for 3,717 yards and 26 scores in just 11 appearances with UCLA last season.

Selected 27th overall by the Seattle Seahawks, running back Rashaad Penny leads the best of the rest on the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds at +1400, followed by Washington Redskins rusher Derrius Guice at +1800.

Quarterback Sam Darnold, who was selected third by the Jets after entering the NFL Draft as a narrow favorite to go first overall, is joined at +2000 by rushers Ronald Jones III of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Sony Michel of the New England Patriots, while 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson follows at +2400 after getting taken by the Baltimore Ravens with the 32nd overall pick.
