Darnold Favored Atop 2018 NFL Draft Betting Odds

Darnold Favored Atop 2018 NFL Draft Betting Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

USC Trojans quarterback Sam Darnold has emerged as the favorite to be selected first overall in this year’s NFL Draft, perched as a -270 wager on the 2018 NFL Draft odds.

Darnold threw for 4,143 passing yards and 26 touchdowns during his junior season in 2017, and leads an elite group of quarterbacks that is expected to capture the spotlight when the first round of the NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday night at AT&T Stadium.

Following a winless campaign in 2017, the Cleveland Browns are expected to target a quarterback with the first overall pick. The New York Jets may do the same after acquiring the No. 3 overall selection in an offseason trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

As a result, a pair of pivots closely follow Darnold on the odds on who will go 1st overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, with Wyoming Cowboys passer Josh Allen pegged at +240, just ahead of Baker Mayfield of the Oklahoma Sooners at +400.

Limited by a shoulder injury, Allen threw for just 1,812 passing yards and 16 scores during his junior season after racking up 3,203 passing yards and 28 touchdowns in 2016.

Conversely, Mayfield enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2017, finishing second in the nation with 4,627 aerial yards and 43 touchdown passes while leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff and claiming the 2017 Heisman Trophy. Mayfield has also been the subject of increasingly intense media speculation as to his likely destination, and has emerged as a short +135 wager to be selected third overall by the Jets on Thursday night.

Barkley Trails QBs on 2018 NFL Draft Odds

Penn State running back Saquon Barkley trails the trio of favored quarterbacks with +700 odds to be this year’s first overall pick, well ahead of UCLA Bruins pivot Josh Rosen at +2500, while NC State’s Bradley Chubb rounds out those odds as a +5000 longshot.

Barkley took a slight step back in 2017, racking up 1,271 rushing yards after running for 1,496 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2016. While Barkley could provide an immediate lift to a Browns running game that ranked 18th in the NFL last season, media reports indicate his preferred destination may be the New York Giants, making the 21-year-old a +115 favorite to be selected second overall.

The lone defensive player listed on the NFL Draft prop bets, Chubb sports +350 odds of hearing his name called with the No. 2 pick, but tumbles back to a +1100 bet to be taken by the Jets at No. 3. However, the 6-foot, 4-inch, 275-pound defensive back is a +110 bet to go at No. 4, and sports heavy -130 odds to be among the top four players selected on Thursday.

While Chubb sits alone among offensive stars as this year’s top NFL Draft prospects, defensive players are expected to be well represented in the first round, with -105 odds favoring OVER 15.5 getting picked.

Alabama’s Calvin Ripley leads the way as a -190 favorite on the 2018 NFL Draft betting odds to be the first wide receiver selected, fueling -270 odds of OVER 3.5 members of the reigning national champion Crimson Tide getting the call in the first round.
