LiAngelo Ball NBA Draft Odds Have Him as Underdog

2018 NBA odds of LiAngelo Ball being drafted.

LiAngelo Ball has kept busy since returning to the United States after playing three months in Lithuania. After announcing his intention to enter next month’s 2018 NBA Draft, Ball participated in a highly anticipated pre-draft workout with the Los Angeles Lakers. But despite faring well in game action against other prospects, particularly on offense, the 19-year-old remains a -550 bet to go unselected on Draft Day on the LiAngelo Ball NBA draft odds.

The younger brother of Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball, LiAngelo endured a difficult campaign. After failing to earn a starting job in his first season with UCLA, Ball ran into legal trouble while traveling with the Bruins ahead of the squad’s season opener against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets when he was arrested along with two teammates for allegedly shoplifting Louis Vuitton sunglasses from a boutique shopping center in the city of Hangzhou.

Intervention by US President Donald Trump led to the release of LiAngelo and his teammates. However, an indefinite suspension handed down by UCLA effectively ended his time with the Bruins, setting the stage for LiAngelo and younger brother LaMelo Ball to join BC Vytautus of the Lithuanian Basketball League in early January.

While LiAngelo enjoyed a strong start in his debut in Lithuania, he would later be hampered by an ankle injury that prevented him from finishing the season with Vytautus. However, basketball observers generally praised the former Chino Hills high school star’s play with Vytautus, while LiAngelo has stated publicly that he believes his time in Lithuania has helped him to prepare for life in the NBA.

Odds on LiAngelo Ball Being Drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft

LiAngelo’s strong performance in his workout with the Lakers comes just a week after participating in the Pro Basketball Combine at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. However, he did not receive an invite to participate in this year’s NBA Combine, held earlier in May, and remains a +325 underdog to be drafted on the LiAngelo Ball 2018 draft odds.

In addition, the Lakers’ first selection at this year’s draft does not come until No. 25, and the team has been regularly mentioned in trade rumors as they seek to return to playoff contention in 2019 after posting a fifth straight losing record this past season.

The Lakers, though, are reportedly not the only NBA team showing interest in the second of Lavar Ball’s three talented sons. The Phoenix Suns interviewed LiAngelo following his strong showing at the Pro Basketball Combine. In addition to owning the first pick overall, the Suns own three additional picks in next month’s draft, fueling speculation they could select LiAngelo with the No. 59 pick.

LiAngelo is also expected to participate in workouts with the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors on June 10, and has expressed interest in playing in the NBA summer league, although it remains unclear with which team he would play.

With the Warriors ready to make their fourth straight appearance in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers as 12.5-point favorites in Game 1 on Thursday night, they could be positioned to take a flyer on LiAngelo with their only pick in this year’s draft, at No. 28.
