Slovenian Doncic among Favorites on NBA Draft Props

Luka Doncic 2018 NBA Draft Odds

Luka Doncic hopes to add to an already impressive list of individual and team honors when the Slovenian basketball star arrives at the 2018 NBA Draft on Thursday as a +1500 bet to be this year’s first overall selection on the NBA Draft betting odds.

The 19-year-old guard enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2017/18, racking up 16.0 points per game while leading Real Madrid to both a Liga ACB title and the EuroLeague championship. Doncic’s efforts earned him EuroLeague MVP honors, as well as a second straight award as the EuroLeague Rising Star.

But despite his emergence as a legitimate star on the court, Doncic enters Thursday night’s 2018 NBA Draft at Barclays Center sitting well back of the top of the odds on NBA first overall pick, with Arizona Wildcats star Deandre Ayton leading the way as a lofty -2500 favorite to be this year’s top selection.

The 19-year-old native of the Bahamas set a new school record for freshmen with 704 total points scored while leading the Wildcats to both the Pac-12 regular season and conference tournament championships, and was honored with an array of individual awards including Pac-12 Player of the Year, Pac-12 Freshman Player of the Year, and Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Freshmen Highlight NBA Draft Props for Thursday

Ayton is part of a growing number of players that have declared for the NBA Draft following their freshman season. “One and done” players are expected to dominate the first round, with odds of OVER 14 freshman players selected pegged at -120 on the NBA Draft props.

Among those expected to get an early call from the podium are Duke Blue Devils teammates Marvin Bagley III, Wendell Carter, and Gary Trent Jr.

Bagley earned ACC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors after averaging a double-double during the campaign with 11.1 rebounds and 21.0 points per game. The 19-year-old trails as a +2200 bet to be the first overall pick in this year’s draft, but sits as a strong -500 wager to be selected in the top three on the 2018 NBA Draft odds.

Named to the ACC All-Freshman Team this season, Carter is expected to go high at this year’s draft, with solid -140 odds of hearing his name called among the top seven picks, while Trent sits on the bubble as a -115 wager to get taken in the first round.

The trio of Duke freshmen are joined on the list of NBA Draft prospects by senior Grayson Allen, who sports solid -200 odds of getting picked in the first round.

A pair of Kentucky Wildcats are also among the freshmen expected to be drafted on Thursday night. Small forward Kevin Knox drew comparisons to Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum during his freshman season at Kentucky, and sports heavy -200 odds of being selected somewhere in the top 11, while teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is pegged as a -270 favorite to not fall below the 13th overall pick.

Not surprisingly, the heavy presence of Blue Devils and Wildcats among this year’s top NBA Draft prospects have contributed to -135 odds favoring OVER five Duke and Kentucky players going in the opening round of this year’s draft.
