Warriors Hold Steady on NBA Championship Odds

Warriors Hold Steady on NBA Championship Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

The Golden State Warriors find themselves in a dogfight with the Houston Rockets for the top record in the Western Conference heading into the New Year, but they’re still clear favorites on the NBA championship odds as they look to take their third title over the past four seasons.

Kevin Durant and the Warriors are listed as the -200 betting favorites on the NBA title odds, and the team got a major reinforcement on Saturday with the return of Stephen Curry from his ankle injury. Curry logged just over 25 minutes of action against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, pouring in a team-high 38 points while making 10 of his 13 three-point attempts.

The Warriors won that game 141-128, with Durant adding 20 points and Klay Thompson picking up 21 points. Golden State has won eight of its past 10 games even with Curry missing some time with that ankle injury, putting them at a Western Conference-leading 29-8.

Houston, though, is on Golden State’s heels in the Western standings, with James Harden leading the way in the NBA in points per game and Chris Paul back in action after returning from a groin injury. The Rockets also ended 2017 with a high-scoring victory, getting past the Los Angeles Lakers by a score of 148-142 on Sunday. Harden was good for 40 points in that contest for the Rockets, who are listed third at +600 on the 2018 NBA championship lines.

That puts the Rockets after the Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers on the NBA futures odds, with the Cavs pegged at +550 on the list. Cleveland has been to each of the past three NBA Finals but is being challenged by the Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors in the East.

Celtics, Spurs, Thunder Round Out NBA Odds

And it’s Boston that is fourth at +900 on the NBA championship odds, as they hold down the best record in the Eastern Conference with 2018 getting underway. The Celtics and Cavaliers are joined by the Raptors in the race for the top seed in the East, but Toronto hasn’t been placed in the same section of the NBA futures – they’re well back at +3300 to claim the title.

A pair of Western Conference teams round out the top contenders on the latest 2018 NBA championship lines, with the San Antonio Spurs at +1400 and the Oklahoma City Thunder at +2500. The Spurs are within shouting distance of the Warriors and the Rockets for the top seed in the West, but the Thunder have needed a recent surge to get back over the .500 mark on the season. Along with the Warriors, Rockets, and Spurs, the Thunder also trail the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western standings – the T-Wolves sit at +6600 on the futures.

The Washington Wizards are the only other team with four-digit futures at the outset of January, sitting at +6600 odds to claim the championship. Each of the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Philadelphia 76ers are holding down +10000 odds to win the NBA finals.
