Rockets Rise on NBA Championship Odds

Rockets Rise on NBA Championship Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

After storming to an 11-3 start and taking the early lead atop the Western Conference standings, the Houston Rockets have made substantial gains on the NBA championship odds since opening the season at +1600, climbing to +1000 on the futures.

The Rockets eclipsed the 50-win mark for the third time in four years last season, but followed up with an early playoff exit for a second straight year, spurring major offseason moves highlighted by a blockbuster trade that brought veteran point guard Chris Paul to town.

Paul has not seen action since Houston’s 122-121 win in Golden State as a 9.5-point underdog on opening night as he recovers from a knee injury. The 2013 NBA MVP’s absence has not slowed down the Rockets, though, who ride a five-game straight-up win streak, capped by Sunday’s 111-96 rout of Memphis as 7-point chalk.

The Warriors closely trail the Rockets with a 10-3 record, but continue to dominate the NBA futures as heavy -180 favorites to claim their third NBA title in four years.

Golden State stumbled out of the gate, covering just once during a middling 4-3 SU stretch, but have caught fire since, winning by a double-digit margin in each of their past six including a lopsided 135-114 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers as 13.5-point chalk on Saturday night.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have yet to find their groove in the early going of the NBA campaign, recording consecutive wins just once during a 6-7 SU start. The slow start has barely dented the Cavaliers’ position on the NBA championship odds, where they have held steady at +575 after opening at +550.

Celtics, Spurs, Thunder Round Out Chalk

The red-hot Boston Celtics sit level with the Rockets at +1000, while the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder round out the front of the pack on the NBA futures, deadlocked at +1600.

With Kyrie Irving sidelined with a facial fracture, the Celtics eked out a narrow 95-94 win over Toronto as 3.5-point home underdogs on Sunday afternoon to extend their current SU win streak to 12 games. Boston’s early-season surge leaves them atop the Eastern Conference standings, 1.5 games up on second-place Detroit, but the club’s +1000 championship odds represent a step back from the +800 odds they sported on opening night.

The Spurs have opened on an ordinary 8-5 SU run while the Thunder have tallied consecutive SU wins just twice during a disappointing 6-7 SU start.

The 7-5 Raptors have climbed to +5000 after opening at +7500, while the surprising 10-3 Pistons continue to trail at a distant +10000, where they are joined by the youthful Sixers and the slumping Clippers.
