Pistons, Cavs Move on NBA Championship Odds

Pistons, Cavs Move on NBA Championship Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

The Detroit Pistons made perhaps the biggest move in the days leading up to this season’s NBA Trade Deadline, acquiring power forward Blake Griffin in a mammoth deal that sent a package of players and draft picks to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The acquisition of the five-time NBA all-star has produced mixed results for the Pistons, who have gone 5-3 in eight games since pulling the trigger, leaving them stalled in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Now faced with diminished hopes of reaching the postseason for just the second time in eight years, the Pistons have seen their NBA Championship odds continue to slide, from +10000 prior to acquiring Griffin, to their current position at +15000.

The Pistons were not alone in making bold roster moves ahead of the deadline, as the Cleveland Cavaliers rocked the NBA with a series of Deadline Day deals that reshaped the roster of the three-time defending Eastern Conference champions.

The Cavaliers briefly tumbled to fourth place in the Eastern Conference while mired in a 7-13 straight up slide, but maintained their resilience on the 2018 NBA Championship futures, dropping only slightly to +650 odds.

In addition to bringing an end to the short-lived Isaiah Thomas experiment by shipping the 29-year-old to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cavaliers followed up with deadline trades that saw veteran Dwyane Wade return to the Miami Heat, while veterans Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose headed to Utah, and Iman Shumpert joined the Sacramento Kings.

The new-look Cavaliers produced instant results, tallying lopsided road victories in Atlanta and Boston, and have been rewarded on the NBA futures odds, climbing slightly to +600.

Celtics Slipping on the NBA Championship Odds

While Cleveland looks to rebound from its recent mid-season swoon, three other Eastern Conference squads try to halt their recent slides on the NBA Championship odds.

The Boston Celtics looked virtually unbeatable during a 16-game win streak that vaulted them to the top of the conference standings. The Celtics’ early success fueled a steady rise from their +1600 opening night position on the NBA futures, climbing to +800 in the days prior to the Trade Deadline.

However, Boston has struggled to maintain momentum on the hardwood. The Celtics have watched the Toronto Raptors climb past them into top spot in the East during their current 6-8 SU run, while tumbling to a +1200 NBA championship bet.

Wade’s return to South Beach has failed to revive the Heat’s flagging championship odds. Miami sported long +10000 odds prior to Deadline Day, and has dipped to +15000 after notching just one win in seven outings.

Winners of four straight, the Philadelphia 76ers remain in playoff contention ahead of their Wednesday night betting matchup with Miami as 6.5-point home favorites. However, the youthful Sixers continue to sit near the bottom of the NBA futures odds, falling to the +10000 odds they sported at the start of the campaign, after sitting at +7500 just a week ago.

The Golden State Warriors continue to lead the way as -180 favorites to repeat as NBA champions, followed by the Houston Rockets, who have vaulted to +400, well ahead of their +2500 odds on opening night.

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to hold steady at +2000, while Raptors have slipped to a +2200 wager despite owning an NBA-best 24-4 home record.
