Astros, Dodgers Atop 2018 World Series Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

With the 2018 MLB regular season set to get underway later this week the Houston Astros sit as favorites to successfully defend their World Series title, perched at +450 on the MLB betting odds.

Houston returns to action with its 2017 championship lineup largely intact, led by NL MVP Jose Altuve and World Series MVP George Springer, and will have Justin Verlander on the mound for Thursday afternoon’s opening day matchup against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park.

The Astros enjoyed their strongest campaign in two decades in 2017, winning 101 games and claiming the AL West division crown by a 21-game margin over the second-place Los Angeles Angels. More of the same is expected in 2018 from the defending champions, who sit as a solid -135 bet to win OVER 96.5 games on the MLB season props.

With a recently signed five-year, $151 million contract extension in hand, much will also be expected from Altuve. The three-time AL batting champion is listed as a strong -140 bet to hit OVER .315 this season, but sits a distant second to Angels superstar Mike Trout as a +650 wager to repeat as AL MVP.

The Los Angeles Dodgers closely follow the Astros at +550 on the 2018 World Series betting odds, ahead of the New York Yankees at +600, the Cleveland Indians at +700, and the Chicago Cubs at +750, while the Washington Nationals round out the front of the pack at +850.

The Dodgers led the majors with 104 wins last season, but failed to maintain that momentum during their first World Series appearance since 2008, coming up short in a seven-game loss to the Astros.

While Los Angeles saw a number of key veterans depart over the winter, including starter Yu Darvish and closer Brandon Morrow, who both signed with the Cubs, the club is once again expected to be among the best in the majors. The Dodgers sport strong -175 odds of claiming a sixth straight NL West crown, and are a +115 bet to win OVER 96.5 regular season contests.

Bolstered Lineup for Yankees for 2018 Season

The Yankees took important steps to bolster their lineup after exceeding expectations with 91 wins, followed by an impressive march to the ALCS, acquiring home run king Giancarlo Stanton in a deal with the Miami Marlins.

Stanton is expected to demonstrate his hitting prowess in his new home at Yankee Stadium, and is perched as a clear +375 favorite to once again lead the majors in regular season home runs, while teammate Aaron Judge sits as his closest rival at +600.

The Indians finished second to the Dodgers with 102 wins before bowing out to the Yankees in the ALDS to extend their World Series drought to 69 years, but are pegged as massive -550 favorites to once again win the AL Central, and return to the MLB postseason for a third straight year.

Further down the 2018 World Series odds, the Boston Red Sox are listed at +1200, well ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals at +2000. The Angels are joined at +2500 by the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets, while the Toronto Blue Jays are one of four squads set at +3000.
