McIlroy Favorite on the 2018 Masters Odds

McIlroy Favorite on the 2018 Masters Odds - Bovada Sportsbook

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy will be looking to become just the sixth golfer in history to complete the career grand slam when he tees off this week at the Masters as a +1000 on the 2018 PGA Masters betting odds.

McIlroy has turned in mixed results in limited action as he prepares for Thursday morning’s opening of the 82nd edition of the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. The 28-year-old County Down native missed the cut at both the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Valspar Championship. However, he looked in championship form while claiming victory at last month’s Arnold Palmer Invitational as a +1400 bet, which marks his first tournament victory since closing out his 2016 campaign with a win at the TOUR Championship.

While McIlroy has four career major wins to his credit, he has been shut out in his last 11 major tournament appearances while missing the cut on three occasions, including last year’s US Open. The two-time PGA Player of the Year’s best finish at Augusta came in 2015, when he placed fourth as +550 chalk, four strokes back of Jordan Spieth.

Fresh off a third-place finish at last weekend’s Houston Open, Spieth travels to Augusta closely ahead of McIlroy at +900 on the odds to win the 2018 Masters. The 24-year-old has also produced a checkered record so far in 2018, finishing in the top three on two occasions, but also missing the cut at both the Waste Management Phoenix Open and the Valspar Championship.

It has also been feast or famine for Spieth in major tournament competition since his breakthrough in 2015. While the young Texan rose to the occasion to claim victory at last year’s Open Championship, he has struggled in his past two trips to Augusta. In addition to his now notorious final-round meltdown two years ago, Spieth struggled to shoot a 75 on Sunday at last year’s tournament, relegating him to an 11th-place finish, eight strokes back of first-time winner Sergio Garcia.

Thomas, Johnson, Woods Next on 2018 Masters Odds

Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson stand at +1100 on the betting lines, followed by Tiger Woods and Justin Rose deadlocked at +1400, while Bubba Watson sits at +1600 on the 2018 Masters odds.

Thomas has caught fire in recent weeks, tallying top-four finishes in his past three PGA Tour appearances. The 24-year-old American picked up the win at the Honda Classic as a +1000 wager, and followed up with a second-place finish at the WGC-Mexico Championships, but finished deadlocked for 22nd place a year ago in his best-ever showing at the Masters.

Johnson was forced to miss last year’s Masters after suffering a back injury just hours before opening tee off, sidelining a strong start to his 2017 season. The 2016 US Open champion has looked good in early appearances this year, picking up the win at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and adding second-place finishes at the WGC-HSBC Champions and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

For Woods, a return to Augusta represents his chance at redemption. Plagued by injuries and personal problems in recent years, Woods has not made a major tournament appearance in two years, and missed the cut in his last three majors after finishing 17th at Augusta in 2015.
